Same reason teams redesign their perfectly good logos all the time, to try to sell more merchandise.
That one was by far the best Alabama logo ever, but they know all they have to do is come up with a new one every few years to keep merchandise sales going.
Nike has good sales people, they talk teams into new shitty logos all the time unfortunately.

Vandy's logo is the V-Star. The logo you are judging is a logo I have not seen in a very long time except on this site.

The Mizzou icons on here are, as has probably been pointed out, not our current logo (see my sig pic for the one we use now). That said, the current logo isn't the best we've had either IMHO. This one for Mizzou emerged around 1980 or so and was used either full time or part time for the next 20 years:
^^^that's freaking baller. Looks even better in color, it was on the walls of our sports arenas as teams would trot out. The problem was a painting like that was too detailed, didn't translate well to shirts/hats and couldn't really be used on team uniforms, just not practical. But I still wish it were the "official" logo just cuz its badass.
