1. LSU - pretty unquestioned
2. Alabama - TOUGH
3. UGA - probably right there with Bama
4. USC - JC makes this unit just above UF
5. Florida - tons of potential, we'll see

State will be in the mix. Not for #1. They will be towards the top. I will leave it at that.

1) LSU
2) Georgia
3) Bama (including Jack LB)
4) Florida
5) USCe
The other 9 are pretty far behind.

Jesse Williams by himself with nobody else on the field is better than anyone else's entire defense.
Williams STAAAAAAAACKED!!!!
SEC FUUUUUUUUCKED!!!!
But for real, like Teague said, a 3-4 line and a 4-3 line isn't comparable in any way. They have completely different roles. In a 4-3 the DL's are called on to make plays where in a 3-4 they are basically only there to move OL's around to allow the LB's to make the plays. Yeah, they get in the backfield and bust up plays as well on occasion, but that is not their intended role on most plays.

Exactly. When people start comparing 34 & 43 DLines, I just laugh. The question should be, "Does LSU's DLine accomplish its intended mission better than Bama's or UGa's DLines accomplish theirs?" Highly debatable.

I thought you guys lost Cox and Ferguson from last year's line. I'd say the returning line is a bit behind the other 5 teams.

Ferguson was nothing special, and we still return Josh Boyd who will likely be drafted this April and the #1 JUCO DE in the nation. Not to mention the young guys like P.J Jones, Quaysus Evans, Kaleb Eulls, etc. who will be in the mix.

Ferguson was not drafted and won't be missed, especially with Autry stepping into his role. Not nearly as large of loss as McPhee was the previous season. Cox is a legit major loss, no doubt. Alot of people are sleeping on Josh Boyd though. His draft grade was actually only 1 round worse than Cox last year(Fletcher got a 2nd rd grade before blowing up in workouts, Boyd got a 3rd rd grade).
We've got somewhere between 5-8 NFL DL on roster right now. No one even bothers mentioning Kaleb Eulls, who was the FR all-sec DE across from Clowney last year. Then we've got Boyd back, Autry, PJ Jones, Nick James, Quay, Curtis Virges, etc...
Still don't think we're necessarily as good as LSU, Bama, UGA, SC, or Fla...but we deserve to be in the same tier.

the best at what? alabama will probably have the best run stuffing line but wont have huge stats due to the system they run, which funnels stats to the linebackers. pass rushing, either LSU or USCe. Georgia is tough too. There are bright spots elsewhere. Overall, you would probably have to say LSU.

yes, probably. bama could well have the best line, in the sense that they have the job of stuffing the run, taking double teams and letting the linebackers do their thing. and both our ends are fully capable of rising up and becoming an additional rush threat like Dareus did. if you include the jack LBs stats (will be hubbard this year), who knows? He was a freak in the spring game, against the best oline he will see all year. all of his 7 tackles were either a sack or tackle for loss.
