They weren't in the SEC at the time, but I think Arkansas in the mid 60's had as good a staff as you'll ever see. Not to mention Jimmy Johnson was a player on the team at the time.

Holmgren was there for the summer before the season, but Bill Walsh scooped him up.

Not SEC, but a bad arse staff.

Miami Hurricanes (The U) had at one time under Jimmy Johnson.

Dave Campo
Tommy Tuberville
Dave Wannstedt
Butch Davis

And Randy Shannon was a player on the team, and Chuck Pagano became an assistant the next year.

Collier's 1959 staff actually coached a season together. Hard to beat the HC, OC and DC of the last team to win a Super Bowl undefeated all on the same coaching staff at Kentucky.

But Chuck Knox wasn't on it. He was at UK in 1961 (Collier's last season) and 1962 (Charley Bradshaw's 1st season / the Thin 30.)

But a coach not mentioned on the Wildcat's '59 staff was Ermal Allen, left in '62 to coach DB's for a young NFL franchise in Dallas. Later became the Cowboys' head of scouting, and a key behind the scenes component of Dallas's success in the Landry era.

Meyer at UF in 2008. Mullen and strong at OC and DC. Strong is on his way to a bcs bowl and Mullen has turned state around probably better than most would admit

Don't forget Steve Addazio, Head Coach at Boston College, and Dan McCarney who is currently the Head Coach at North Texas.

The goal was to name the SEC program with the best assistants at one time, not worst assistant of all-time.

We did have a pretty good lineup of coaches and future coaches (players). In 1964-65, Frank Broyles had Johnny Majors, Jim Mackenzie, Merv Johnson, and Barry Switzer on staff. Some of the players became good coaches as well, such as Jimmy Johnson, Ken Hatfield, and of course, in his own niche...Jerry Jones. I may be leaving someone out, but they were loaded.
