I wouldn't even put Kingsbury as the coordinator with the biggest impact for A&M. Everyone knew this offense would put up huge numbers with the talent we have on O, the big question was our D and Snyder has been money so far.

For A&M, it's in this order:

1. Mark Snyder (you can't even begin to describe how much better our defense is this year than last year)

2. Brian Polian (every single category is a huge improvement from last season)

3. Larry Jackson (not a single critical injury and we've been able to minimize the number of true freshmen who HAVE to play)

Just would like to hear your explanation on this. I know this past weekend the score itself might make one think that but you still gave up over 500 yds of offense. Just curious.

Stats don't lie: (through week 5)

Pass Defense: from 336.75 ypg to 232.50 ypg
Total Defense: from 399.75 ypg to 338.50 ypg
Scoring Defense: from 23.25 ppg to 11.75 ppg
Pass Efficiency Defense: from 138.14 to 101.06
Turnovers Forced: from 3 to 6
3rd Down Defense: from 40% (26/65) to 26.5% (18/68)

He took a defense that lost 2 starting defensive linemen and 3 starting defensive backs and significantly upgraded their performance.

More a function of how bad we thought our defense would be moreso than how awesome we think our defense currently is. Snyder has done more with less.

We're clearly an offensive team, but I don't think our defense will be the liability some of us thought it would be.

absolutely. Our defense has been decent on the hoof but prone to make critical mistakes the last few seasons. I think most of us were incredibly scared how bad it might be in the preseason

DLine: our DTs were so bad they moved a fairly average DE to DT and announced we were starting a true Freshman at DE who is from New Orleans and didn't even have another SEC offer

LBers: everyone liked our starters but the backups were worrisome and in preseason a walkon was running 2nd team at MLB (he has since been passed)

DBs: 3 of our 4 starters from last year are gone and our returning starter is massively injury prone (and at this point I doubt he ever plays another game for us). We are starting a true fish at one CB, an undersized converted CB at safety and our "most talented" DB seemed to be better suited to LB since he can't seem to cover anyone

So before the season, many expected Arky level of trainwreck among our defense. Most of the kids have played well. Most of the guys who have been underachievers are now playing up to their potential. It's not like it's all-world. But it's actually good....and totally shocking.

This. Our defense looks respectable this year. We got yards put on us by some pretty bad teams last year. The 3rd down defense has been the biggest thing, we routinely got torched on 3rd and longs last year.

Pease looks like a great hire for UF too

OC for UF
Both for A & M

None of the others have been overly impressive.

Yes they do, the stats for this season are based on three cupcakes and one good team (Florida), compared to a full season last year that included a nine game conference schedule.

ETA: You guys do look better on d so far this season, though.

I don't think this is true ... it looks like they used the stats over the same time period for last year just by glancing at the 3rd down numbers.

I like Brent a lot, but our offense looked as good if not better after four games last year. We will see his worth after October.

Other than the fact that I used 2011's stats through week 5 and compared those to 2012's stats through week five, you're right. In other words, other than the fact that you're completely wrong, you're absolutely correct.

What the heck are you smoking? We run a field position offense with downhill running. We could not run through a brown paper bag last year with 170 & 180 lb rbs and a OC who ate cheeseburgers and sat on a cooler during games...shining his super bowl rings.

Saturdays game isnt about the OC...dont expect us to score a lot or do a lot...its going to be a tough hardnosed slobberknocker SEC style. My kind of football. Defense and OL + special teams will win the game. I love 16-13 type games.

I'd say Pease, easily. The turnaround, so far, has been amazing.

I would like to put in a good word for Lorenzo Ward, though. All we heard all off-season was that his taking over EJ's defense would be a huge question mark and could cause us to lose games. Instead he has taken the defense to another level.

I don't think taking a strong defense and making it better, in his first go round as DC, is on the same level as reversing the abomination that was Florida's offense, though. So Pease still deserves the kudos.
