He has some flaws in the way he throws the ball per scouts that might knock him
I'm no scout, but his mechanics are absolutely horrible. His arm motion and release are fricked up, which is why the ball sails on him, and he throws off his back foot more than Jarret Lee.

I would have to find the post again, but the flaw isn't about throwing sidearm. And Mahomes doesn't side-arm everything lol

Most of the throws i saw Pentax make last night were side-arm throws in order to get the ball around the defender that was there. But hey, JD is a better all around QB.

Well, at least he's not a quitter...

I think the big factors that cause his drop is his throwing motion and his history of injures. He’s a good QB no doubt but the NFL doesn’t take many chances on guys in the 1st and 2nd rounds. not saying that 1st and 2nd round guys always pan out but they rarely get drafted in those round after 2 ACL injuries.

If you go back and watch him when he was Indiana, he would predominantly throw side arm ish. His mechanics, or preferred arm angle have actually improved a lot since then. Last night was the first time I was like holy shite, Penix is a pocket passer, not a dual threat. Reminds me of Teddy Bridgewater.

His biggest knock is his extensive injury history. He also looked hurt after a couple hits from Michigan's DL last night and his play regressed as the game went on. Idk if he can hold up 18 games in an NFL season, but he would be a solid backup.

He was awful last night. And he started the Tua injury overacting bit once things went really south.

The way he got stepped on by his guard, no way he faked that. That was over 300 pounds getting bull rushed that put his weight on Penix’s planted leg.

As a Bear fan, I would take Penix at this!

Was it the first time you've watched him?

Saw him play 2 games in Indiana, one game last year bc I knew who he was and we tried poaching his OC, and 3 games this year. I could swear he used his legs more before. Last night was the first time I saw him just be a statute.

Look at his games all season. Flashes of good but generally not all that special.

I believe he did run a little more at Indiana but he's never been much of a dual threat.

Between the ball sailing high, and the WR drops his team had, I wonder if nerves played into the equation.

Man, after watching him against TX, I thought he'd be top 15 easily.
After last night, he looks like a third rounder.

Where does this guy go in the draft? He had a magical season , but he laid a giant egg last night, didn't he?
He had ups and downs all season just like all the top QB's, but he had far more ups. If I were an NFL GM needing a QB he would be first on my board. Having said that, not sure I trade up if a team with a higher pick also has him first on their board...depends on where my pick is.

He was getting abused against Mich and running for his life. Should have sat the game out and help his draft stock rather than risk injury.
