the #3 back was Kam Martin a True Freshman and Stanton Truit a former WR took snaps at RB too. Everything went down hill after Ole Miss and Vandy, both starting backs got injuried along with Sean White. Not much we could do at that point.

Who was the #3 back? Why did Malzahn play a seriously injured player? Obviously, that's a risk to cause more injury. If your doctors cleared those players to play, then the players were not seriously injured, or Malzahn AND the doctors were complicit in playing a seriously injured player.

Not sure who'd you call #3, I thought he was injured. Malik Miller. That left us with Kam Martin and a converted WR.

Gus played Kam P because the kid was cleared to play...not because he was 100% but he couldn't hurt the injury worse. It was obvious he was never the same after Vandy. It probably shouldn't shock you that bama is a deeper team than Auburn and really everyone else. It is easier to sit players when the production drop isn't as bad.

That being said this is all stupid. I would trade our backs today for Bo. However, our backs behind the 2016 bama line would likely have done more than Bo. Bo looks like a legit NFL back when healthy...KJ hasn't proven that to me and Kam still has some work to do. JS might prove to be a world beater, but Jalen also might step up his passing game and enter Cam and DW territory this season...Looking at everything on paper it looks like this years Iron Bowl will be a great game.

Sounds reasonable to me.

If you hit Pettway near the line, hes going down.

Oh jeez. Swing and a miss..I'm guessing you are basing that on the one time he got stoned and dropped by a first round draft pick Bama LB when he was way less than 100%. He had great YAC all season until he was injured.

I actually said that before the Bama game.

Just pointing out that Bo had multiple subpar games, more so than truly impressive ones.

I wouldn't really car them subpar, he just didn't play a whole lot except for mop up time until really the LSU game. Coaches were clearly still figuring out whether they trusted him and whether he was 100%. He was also figuring that stuff out.

quote:

Damien Harris was good but not exceptional.

Damien Harris was pretty damn good. He basically averaged 5+ YPC every SEC/P5 game and his worst games were games in which he still averaged 4+ YPC.

quote:

Like I said earlier, talent ceiling I'd give the nod to Bama RBs. Proven on field results very clearly favor AU stable of backs

Agree to disagree I guess. Alabama ran for
- 242 yards vs USC (5.38 YPC) (#42 YPA D)
- 216 yards vs LSU (4.24 YPC) (#8 YPA D)
- 203 yards vs Auburn (4.61 YPC) (#25 YPA D)
- 234 yards vs Florida (6.16 YPC) (#32 YPA D)
- 269 yards vs Washington (5.38 YPC) (#23 YPA D)
- 221 yards vs Clemson (6.50 YPC) (#24 YPA D)

And that doesn't count the massive yardage totals against the bad run defenses that Pettway put most of his yards up against (State, Ole Miss, Arkansas).

Alabama returns all the guys who ran roughshod over 4-5 pretty good run defenses last year. Pettway was great, but he didn't prove his stats against any good run defenses last year. I'm not sure what else they'd need to do to prove themselves.

Both situations are pretty good, but interestingly different. Alabama has 3-4 guys who have all proven to have big games, but don't have a workhouse type to step out yet (like Henry was) (Bo maybe but injuries sidelined that talk), while Auburn has a workhorse, a pretty good 2nd option and then unproven guys.

But again, it's really splitting hairs.

So Kam Pettway is built like a Mack truck...runs about a 4.7 40, played in only 9 games, 3 of which he was injured but managed anyway to amass over 1200 yards in the SEC..and your opinion is that not only is he slow, but he can't break tackles. Okeedokee.

My point is you take out Hurts and those rushing numbers go way down.

Like you said, Bama has a lot of guys who show promise but haven't proven to be "the guy" like Henry did

Auburn has "the guy" and a guy PFF loved in Kerryo. Johnson as the backup

Our RBs averaged 181.4 YPG 6.1 YPC. The YPC # would be good enough for 3rd nationally. Jalen's YPC number actually brought the overall number down.

The guy who has never had a big game against a good defense. Our guys have had multiple very good games rushing against good rush defenses.

So, the expectation is he will do well when healthy against a good rush defense, but there are no results yet that back that up.

I must have missed the Auburn-Tennessee game last year.
Can't find it on the web, either.

Sounds like Pettway did really good, though. Who won?

Pettway is a beast but we have 2 that I would take over him. I would like to have Pettway though even if he is only good enough for third string. I loved the way he dominated the very bad defenses he played against last year.
