Go look at two factors...

1. Number of SEC Championships (NOT SEC Tournament titles!) since 1975

2. Number of NCAA Ty appearances since 1975.

I think the bammers are definitely in the top half of the SEC given those two factors.

Top half for sure. Not #2 or #3 though.

UT & Alabama have never made it to the final 4. LSU has made it 4 times (woohoo)

Don't group us with those peasants

Look up the records.

Bama could have the 2nd or 3rd best SEC record, doesn't matter, they arte not close to the 2nd or 3rd best program.

Zero final fours in history automatically puts you behind programs like UK, UF, Ark and LSU.

Alabama is #2 in wins. Alabama is 3rd in reg season titles. Alabama is 2nd in SEC tourney titles.

What does that make them?

eta If you read the whole post, you would see that I have them mid pack for the last 20 years.

Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and LSU all have more NCAA tournament appearances. Florida and Tennessee have maybe 1 or 2 fewer appearances. Florida will likely pass them in the next few years

It makes them a top tier SEC school, but I have to agree that Final Four appearances trumps records. I stand by what I said earlier. Anyone who thinks UA is bottom tier because of recent history is just not replying honestly.

(Yes, I am an AU Alum and I recognize what Sonny Smith and Cliff Ellis brought us. I am not blinded by biases. UA is one of the better programs in the SEC. I just hope that Coach Pearl brings us to the upper half of the SEC and I can again cheer for AU in the NCAAs.)

I think bama is 4th in most regular season championships and that is just among the 10 original schools. Arkansas and Missouri both have more conference championships all time. Florida is also only like 1 behind bama in this category as well and could easily tie or pass them in the near future

Their practice facilities and locker room are legit.

Arena is outdated.

Money is amazing.

They're a top 20 type job in the country, if they decide to be.

Are you a honorary Bammer or something? I don't think many people outside their own fan base would rank them as a top 20 job. You could argue Wichita State is a better job today in terms of winning conference championships and making the tournament on a regular basis

They won the SEC tournament many times after it was revived in the late 70's. From 1975 or so to around 2000 Alabama was a solid top 20 program.

Kentucky is the only blue blood program.

Florida and Arkansas are next.

Then LSU, UGA and Alabama.

I would say Alabama is a place where you can make the NCAA madness 8 of 10 years with a good coach.

Bama is top 3rd in the conference not too shabby, and tons of potential for any coach wanting to make +$3mill/year.

I think that is a fair assessment. Without a doubt, they are right up there in the top tier. (Where I want AU to be eventually.) I think had UA not gone with Hobbs, they would have been much better off.

Y'all aren't even better than LSU, but besides that, I would love to know out of UF and Arkansas, you think y'all are better than.

Alabama, historically is the 2nd or 3rd best program in the conference overall

Alabama is third in conference titles. In any other metric, they're not even top 5. You have to account for the fact that Arkansas joined the conference in 1992. Florida has 2 national titles that trump the one more sec title Alabama has than them. LSU has 4 final fours and 3 more conference titles. Missouri, while a new member, has 26 tournament appearances, more elite 8s (5) and 16 conference titles in a better basketball conference. I'd put Alabama no higher than 6 historically.

UK
UF
Arky
LSU
Then something like MSU, AL, MIZZOU, UT. Really all interchangeable.
