And even with the 4 team playoff next year, being preseason ranked in the top 5 versus #18 could be the difference between suffering a loss or two and being able to bounce back into that top 4 or not by season's end

Absolutely. Bama should remain top 10 this season. It'll be interesting to see the preseason next yr though. With Bama replacing the Butkus and Maxwell winner, I'm not sure where they will be ranked. Hopefully top ten, but we'll see.

Oh I'm sure they will be ranked number 1 pre-season next year. After all, their coach makes 7.5 million a year. They must be the best team out there, right?

Why post this thread?, we all know they never drop Bama much in the polls. They should of been dropped more after the Auburn loss. It does not matter if people think "they are still a great team" or like in 2011, "LSU and Bama are the two best teams" so why don't we drop Bama only 1 notch in the polls after a loss at home toward the ending of the year. If we would of had the playoffs this year, Auburn would of had to play Bama again, it's ridiculous!!!!

Security guy at airport this morning saw my Auburn shirt and asked, "How long does it take Bama to fall out of the top 10?" The punchline? "One second or Sooner."

Maybe they don't fall quite that far, but at 5 am it was very funny. I'd say sixth or seventh is likely.

damn that espn dickride

Even Bama fans would have to admit that ... it's sad but true and it's probably why so many fans in other conferences hate the SEC.

But they do get, or see times like SCAR beating UCF in Orlando and still dropping two spots in the polls because they don't seem to understand that only Bama gets shown the special privileges and receives the special treatment.

Lookit ... it would not surprise me in the least to see Bama still ranked above SCAR in the final poll, even though SCAR beat two BCS bowl winners, another quasi major bowl winner in the Cotton Bowl winner, and beat seven out of eight bowl teams they played on their schedule ... with seven of those actually winning their bowls.

Not another team in the country can boast that ... but in the end it will be, "Bama beat Tennessee."

Me likey.

Don't think they'll fall that far, either, but wherever they end up that will make a great punchline.

Why would they drop lower than 3 loss teams?

They don't have to drop behind and 3 loss teams to drop out of the top 10. Auburn, FSU, Mich. State, Missouri, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, UCF, Clemson and Louisville would do it.

Again, I think it's pretty unlikely, but not because they would have to drop behind any 3 loss teams to do it.

I don't think they will.

#12 Clemson 40 - # 7 tOSU 35
#8 Mizzou 41 - #13 OSU 31
#11 OU 45 - #3 UA 31
#15 UCF 52 - #6 Baylor 42
#4 MSU 24 - #5 Stanford 20
#9 SCar 34 - #19 Wisconsin 24
#10 Oregon - UT 7
Texas Tech 37 - #14 Arizona State 23

I would guess behind FSU/AU/MSU/OU for sure, probably Mizzou/SCar/Oregon...maybe Clemson/UCF...hard to tell.

Based on who they beat, SCar really deserves to get a lot of love. Maybe top 5.

you'd think the teams that will make the biggest jumps would be OU and UCF.

Maybe something like:

1/2) FSU/Auburn
3) Michigan State
4) Oklahoma
5) ?

Missouri, USC, Clemson, Baylor, UCF, Alabama, Oregon, and tOSU have pretty similar credentials.

UCF will jump us. We'll probably stay around #14.

South Carolina is a really interesting case because they have a really nice collection of wins to point to in Clemson, MU, UCF, and Wisconsin.

They have a really terrible loss in Tennessee but the reality is opinion poll voters are wildly inconsistent with how they reward or punish a bad loss. If the team is a respected media darling (e.g. 2003 USC) the loss is ignored as a fluke. If the team is a no name team with no national following (e.g. 2011 Ok State) it becomes a talking point.

Anything inside the top 10 would be too high, imho.
