Les has the highest paid staff in the country.

Bingo. To me he is willing to take Les (no pun) in order to have a better staff. Smart man if you ask me.

Compare that to Sumlin, who ONLY replaced Chavis on the defense and kinda picked up "values" for other coordinator/assistant positions so far.

We should be looking at total coaching salaries cost PER PROGRAM, which will look a lot more equal.

the pressure was not from Texas, which has been your point the whole time.

No, just the opposite. There was a vacuum of pressure. That allows us to spend whatever we want without a backlash. THAT was my point.

Compare that to say, Madison Wisconsin, where thanks to social pressure they can't pay good coaches enough to keep them. Thanks to B1G money they could afford it, but socially they can't do it.

The optics matter. Might as well make that my 2015 offseason thesis statement- optics matter to athletics department decisions everywhere.

Then why did Charlie get $5 million a year day one? Sorry to bring them up again, but frankly this point is still hanging there.

We also got a little lucky by landing an undersized overlooked East Texas firecracker. Hammer hit kerosene that year.

Exactly. Its not like we paid Sumlin $5 million year one. If I remember correctly we paid him only like $3 million year one.

He has earned his $5 million a year. Maybe not if the metric is "wins" or "championships." But if the metric is the one most companies use- ROI- Sumlin is worth every dollar.

Did JFF help him earn that money? Sure! Doesn't make it any less valid. He never had to start Johnny.

in Louisiana a real championship is actually a real championship. Like, you win a bunch of games and then win a championship

Sounds like its nice to be a LeSU fan then.

Fair enough! I love some real honesty!

You got big plans for the weekend? I am mentally preparing for the draft next week myself. Biggest draft for the Saints in years.

I have a wedding tomorrow and a basketball tourney that I'm plying in. Other than that, same as you. Looking forward to the draft.

When will Alabama realize that the SEC West is getting a reputation as being overrated....in no small part due to Bama shitting the bed against Oklahoma and Ohio State in a BCS bowl and college playoff the last 2 seasons. Thanks Bama.

Good luck scoring at both events.

Draft makes me nervous man. Saints have too many needs, they have to kill it.

most mocks don't have us taking a OL in the first 3 rounds

makes me think I don't know wtf I'm talking about, because I feel like it's a big need.

need LB too

as well as a number of other positions

I agree with that. I think OL is an early need. You are right that LB is high on the list though.

Watch them take a RB first round. I would break my remote in half.
