9-3

Losses to UGA, Bama, and either TCU or TAMU (but not both).

vs. TCU @ Cowboys Stadium - Win in a close one
vs. UAB - Win
vs. Kent State - Win
vs. Auburn - Win
@ Georgia - Win (Georgia's defense will take a hit with graduation)
@ Mississippi State - Win
vs. Florida - Toss Up
@ Ole Miss - Win
vs. Furman - Win
@ Alabama - Toss Up
vs. Texas A&M - Toss Up
vs. Arkansas - Win in a close one

Anywhere from 9-3 to 12-0, although I feel that 10-2 is the most realistic outcome.

Maybe predict a record and discuss.

Man I really thought we'd go undefeated or lose one this year...close but injuries, WR's not quite playing up to snuff, Zach took a little longer to settle in, the team wasn't as strong away from home (I think we really missed Tyrann more than I thought we would).
For 2013 a lot will depend on who leaves early. I do think regardless, the club will be one of the favorites for ATL invite with A&M and UA...probably be determined by H2H between the 3 teams.

Losing to UF in BR would suck, but Muschamp definitely has it going on, should be a good game. TCU may well win B12 next B12 next year, assuming they keep their whole team for the entire season.

Yeah.. the offense (barring any catastrophic string of injuries like this season) should be a well-oiled machine. Our only losses will be Lonergran at center (his replacement, Porter, has gotten meaningful snaps this season), Clement at TE (though we should actually improve at TE next year), and likely Ware at RB (which will give Hill and company more touches).

The replacements on the defensive line will be the key to the team's success IMO. Mingo and Montgomery are sure things to declare, and the first guy off the bench, Edwards, is a senior; another senior DE, Agayhere (sp?) is also a senior. The only DE returning with meaningful snaps is Rasco, who is somewhat proven. Danielle Hunter is likely the other DE (played a lot on ST this year as a true freshman). Downs graduates at DT (which allows more time for Freak) and Logan is up in the air. If he stays, that will help the young DEs develop; if he goes, Ego Ferguson is the likely starter.

LBs will be STACKED next season. Minter is the only candidate to leave, and he is up in the air at this point. If Minter returns, LSU's linebacking corps will be one of the best in the country; even if Minter chooses to declare, every other LB on the 2-3 deep depth chart returns. Lamin Barrow will be a force on the outside, and the young guys - Louis, Alexander and Debo, mainly, will have another year of strength and conditioning under their belt - a scary thought.

DBs will likely lose both safety Eric Reid and corner Tharold Simon. I'd like to see Simon stay, as he wasn't spectacular this season, but many sources are indicating that he's gone. If Simon leaves, Jalen Mills and Jalen Collins (both of whom started this season - Mills on the outside, Collins at the nickel spot) return, and Micah Eugene (this year's dime back) will likely take the reigns at the nickel spot. Loston showed great improvement as the year went on at safety, particularly in coverage, an area he's struggled with in the past. Ronald Martin or Corey Thompson are the likely candidates to replace Reid, both of whom played extensively this season (Martin more than Thompson).

James Hairston should replace Alleman as the full time placekicker, and with all the rumors of Wing leaving, the other Aussie, Jamie Keehn, will take the punting duties.

Like I said, it all depends on how the defensive front handles the offseason attrition. If the new guys can come in and learn quickly, LSU could be a very dangerous team in 2013.

ETA: This may be one of the toughest road schedules in the country, though. Having to go to a neutral site to play TCU, Athens and Tuscaloosa is brutal.

TCU played more freshman this season than LSU (which was more than any team in the country).

Both LSU and TCU return a LOT of talent. It should be a great battle.

Good post, thanks.
I wish Minter would stay, but he should go. Tremendous year, he'll be picked high and have a good shot at a NFL start next year. Mingo needs to return. Not the year everyone thought he would have plus he needs to add a little weight (imo). The O and the ST should be solid and improved regardless of losses. The D, like you said, has a whole lot riding on who leaves. I've a lot of confidence in Chief to field a great D with whoever we have on the field though.

As much as I'd love for him to return, you're right. His stock shot up through the roof after his performance this season, and it's difficult for anyone to follow up a breakout year such as Minter's, especially when he may not have the best combine numbers.

I agree. He didn't exactly "wow" us like he did last year. I think he has unreal natural ability, and that he really doesn't have as much to lose returning for his senior campaign as Minter does (meaning I believe due to his great potential, Mingo will go early in the draft, regardless).

However, it is very difficult for a player to turn down a first or second round contract, which all the draft gurus are predicting for him - for that reason, I think he goes.

The offense has potential to be great next year. If Leslie makes it to campus, he has an immediate impact, IMO. We really needed a big target at WR this season, especially near the goal line. Mett's lack of TD passes was evident due to this problem. The offensive line (if it can stay healthy) will be one of the best units in the league. The RBs all return, except Ware, IMO - and even that is not certain. All the WRs return, except Shepard, and Mett can only improve with a year of experience under his belt.

Agreed..although, there will be a learning curve for the new guys up front. I have great expectations for Danielle Hunter at DE. He looks like a monster - and he only just turned 18 at the start of this season.

But, I have faith in Chief and whoever he decides to put out there.

I don't know if I could handle a good LSU offense.

Les Miles at LSU?

Anyone who doesn't put the o/u at 11-2 is wrong.

Hopefully for the 6th year out of 8. I know there is a large segment that wants more of the 'overs' (as I do also of course), but it's nice having that as a baseline, as opposed to what's normal for most schools.
