I really hope we get to fire another Vol coach this year.

Vols have a great young coach who has a young team that needs the fans behind them in these hard times. GO VOLS....

The mood is depressing as hell, i'd say even worse than the end of the Dooley era. We had high hopes going into this year and all indications are that the emperor has no clothes.
If we had fought hard and our losses were to better teams, I would be ok and want to give Jones more time. He is clearly in way over his head and is just selling us snake oil.
Really you are only seeing extreme homers defending the guy now. Anyone with football IQ knows he is a dead man walking - his clock management and in game coaching is below many high school coaches. We will finish the year 6-6 or 7-5, have another off season victory, then go 8-4 and be stuck in mediocrity.
The only way TN gets back on top is if we go out and hire a proven winner. Until we do that, we will continue dumping coaches every 3-4 years.
Thank god I bought ski passes this year instead of tickets to see the Vols play.

If I'm a UT fan, I know it would have been hard to temper expectations this year from all the media love they were getting. I also know that they aren't there yet
Next year I would expect a 9-3 or 10-2 type season or I would flip out.
Let's just say they made a couple plays on D and are 4-1 or 5-0 right now. Then he's a great coach.
The problem is people started to believe those expectations because the SEC Network started to really hype the shite out of Tennessee. Prior to the last few weeks of the offseason most casual fans went from thinking 8-4 to 'we're winning the East!' because that was the incessant talk put out by the SECN. Those of us who know the weakspots in the roster knew better than to expect that but now that folks got hyped up they want someone to blame.
Honestly, I said it during the offseason. I was not comfortable with the hype they were putting out -- it flat out gave me a sense of forboding because this was never going to be a perfect season. There was no way we were meeting those expectations with a roster full of freshman and sophomores starting, an OL that was dead last in FBS last season and that lost its starting guard just before the season started then its other starting guard not long ago, lost its starting nickel in camp, lost another CB in camp, lost its starting DE two games in and now it looks like the backup DE and has had a host of other injuries (Howard, North, Croom, and Johnson are all out in the WR corps alone).

The player that Butch "purportedly" slugged wouldn't come out and say anything because he's Tennessee first and a home grown boy from East Tennessee. Trust me, if this really went down and the kid was upset about it, he could go straight to John Adams and Wes Rucker and Butch would be run out of town faster than anyone could blink because the buy-out clause would be history.
I'm connected to a few pivot donors here at my work and everyone I've spoken with seem to think he's given another year. The extension was not very popular, but everyone took heaping helpings of the kool-aid after the Iowa win with the young team since we hadn't won a bowl in so long. And Butch wasn't shooting down any of the "Michigan" rumors which, realistically, there was no freaking chance in hell that school wanted him. Big, big mistake by Dave Hart and company.
The biggest issue, from my point of view, is he can't handle criticism. He's slowly starting to shut off the opinions of former players and big donors coming from the outside — Dooley did that for three years, HUGE no no. If Vols miss a bowl game he's coaching for his life and better win the SEC in 2016. The only way he doesn't come back is if they lose out in the conference slate.
I predicted 8-4... Now it's looking like he'd be lucky to swing 7-5. I'm quite eager to see the dumpster fire in the gray uni's this week TBH.
