For real. Tennessee might be top 5 in the country for instate talent in 2019 and 2020. The talent level has been on par with Alabama and Mississippi these last few years and looks to surpass them soon.

The sheer number of blue chip (4-5*) talent has surpassed Mississippi the last 5 years. I did a thread on this close to 6 months ago with the metrics to back that up. It's close, but Tennessee is starting to pass a lot of the state's that have traditionally put out more talent than us.
It's early, but Tennessee's 2020 class is already twice as deep as Alabama's and Louisiana's in state 2020 class. If things hold that will be the first time in history that that we've had back to back classes with more in state talent than those 2 states. That's a huge positive for the University of Tennessee moving forward.

That's certainly true. But a couple of caveats:
1) You guys don't recruit Memphis that well. That place is status quo as far as player numbers go, the growth is in Middle Tennessee. But Memphis is still important, and probably Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Memphis State have a geographic advantage over you there.
2) Mississippi punches above it's weight when it comes to prospects. Same with Louisiana.
Think part of it is the rating services love nice areas with amenities when ranking players. Murfreesboro, Nashville, etc.
They don't dig them some Philadelphi or Jackson, Mississippi.
Same story with South Carolina. They never really seem to cover that area between Columbia, Augusta, and Hilton Head. Or Kingstree or something.
I'm saying that a guy with 5 star ability will be noticed in Murfreesboro for sure.
Some big kid from a podunk 20 mile from Jackson has a good chance of falling under the radar and being a 2 or 3 star, whereas if were in Murfreesboro 40 year old men would be obsessing about what his latest tweet was or what gear he was wearing.

Jones followed Kelly at CMU and Cincy and was successful at both with Kelly's recruits & system in place. Kelly took both programs to where they had never really been before winning record, conference title, and bowl games. Jones showed up with ready made rosters that were designed to compete in said conferences and was successful but no one ever got to see what he could do with talent he had to develop and recruit. The 2nd year at Cincy when they won the Big East his 2 deep was mostly RS juniors and seniors that Kelly had brought in.
He has never been in a situation where he had to build a program and develop a roster. My guess is he would have been fired after 6 years at both CMU and Cincy. He is completely clueless on what to do at UT and has had the advantage of the east being down. Nice guy but will never IMO be able to bring UT back to where they want it to be. Has done a great job of cleaning the program up and rebranding but time for top tier coach to come in if UT wants to stay relative in CFB.

Tennessee’s football program is a coach killer. Expectations are inconsistent with potential.
