What worked at Cincinnati that didn't work at Tennessee?

I mean the level of competition is a big factor. But Tennessee fans, can you give me specific examples/games that most likely would've been successful for him up north, but didnt translate well at all down here?
I really only watch his Alabama games (obviously) and some highlights here and there.

Cincinnati had a losing record against Derek Dooley.

Brian Kelly's recruits and a Big East conference schedule.

you mean following Kelly at two different stops wouldnt translate to good results when not?

Wait, who was the coach at Cincinnati at that time?

It is working, he's winning 7-8 games a year. Not sure what more they expect.

He followed Brian Kelly at Cincinnati and followed Derek Dooley at Tennessee. He was able to maintain the program at Cincinnati and has been unable to build and sustain a program at Tennessee. Oddly enough, he was boat raced by Dooley when he was coaching at Cincinnati

Being in the Big East.

You don't understand the mess that Dooley left. He did his job and I thank him for that, but he can't take the next step.

I'll bite.
He implements schemes and calls plays that would maybe have success in the MAC or Big East, but won't cut it with the big boys.
Prime example is the Hail Mary Florida beat us on. Botch didn't think Franks could throw it that far. Such would be probably the case in the MAC.
Botch also thinks Quinten Dormady is fast enough to run the read option against SEC defenses and refuses to tailor his offensive scheme accordingly. His stubbornness will ultimately cost him his job.

He had a legit passer at Central Michigan Dan Lefevour, not so much at UC

Is it really much different?
Cincy
23-14 overall(8-4 average)
12-9 conference (4-3 average)
Tennessee
33-22 (8-4 average)
14-19 conference (3-5 average)
Pretty similar to me

Reason one why you do not hire the hot coach for that year.

As said he came to Cincinnati after Kelly had rebuilt the program right? So the players were already there, easy schedule, there wasn't a lot he could do wrong.
UTenn is not an easy job. Their in state recruiting sucks, and I mean sucks bad. They have to go to Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina to get recruits. Luckily they are in the middle of all those states.

This is really all you need to know
Weaker level of competition + did he really do much better at Cincy than Tenn? I don't remember him winning more than 9 games there

Weaker level of competition but weaker pool of talent
So it evens out. It's not like he was getting Tennessee level recruits at Cincy

He wasn't but it's not just a matter of facing better players
You face better coaches with better staffs more capable of scouting, gamplanning, etc with more resources to do it
Butch has those resources to but if he and his staff can't scout/etc as well as other coaches it will be exposed
