What will it take for Texas to play A&M again?

I think it will take Texas moving conferences or going independent. Right now there is too much bad blood with A&M being perceived as the ones who left the rivalry and destroying UT's conference in the process. If Texas went to the Pac 12 I think they would play again.

Regardless, I hope they renew the rivalry. Rivalries are what makes CFB great. Hell, most of A&M's fight song is about beating Texas. It's stupid to deny the fans of both teams the ability to enjoy that game. Administrators are ignoring what fans want and ruining CFB in the process (ego's ending rivalries and neutral site openers instead of quality home and home games).

I think only the Texas legislature can make the game happen again. However, with alumni from both schools in influential positions it may be a long time coming.

Maybe if Texas could stop losing to Kansas they could both meet up in a bowl game

Neither side cares about their shitty rivalry. It's dead.

I don't know, TBH.

The kids that I know that go to A&M really don't care one way or the other. No animosity in any respects for Texas.

The kids I know at UT feel no need to play A&M and toe the line of "A&M left us."

The Old Ags and the Texas Exes are the ones with the bad blood and they are the ones doing the scheduling.

I figure it will be a good 5-10 years more, since it has to be OOC.

The fact is, it won't ever be the same again and that's okay. Those who want it to be the same will be sorely disappointed. Perhaps there can be vitriol, but I guess it will have to come from an on the field perceived slight.

If it happens, I think a first game would be a nice matchup.

A&M already has to take a yearly spanking from daddy LSU. I doubt they want to bring back the annual butt whooping from big bro too

Aside from some older former students, nobody really cares about the horns.

The current SEC away trips are way more fun than going to austin

When we left the XII, the SEC and A&M/Missouri did everything in their power to preserve A&M/tu and Missouri/KU. The SEC initially gave us both open dates on rivalry week for those games, and has even set up Missouri/Arkansas and A&M/LSU to swap back to LSU/Arkansas to accommodate a change in heart by tu and KU.

Delos Dodds lectured us, and chastised us in the media when we left the XII by saying that the A&M game meant nothing to them and how we lost the "privilege" of playing them when we left. He also told our athletic director and president that tu would never play A&M again if we left the XII without his consent. A&M made it known to everyone that it was our desire to continue the game, OOC on Thanksgiving weekend.

tu also used Baylor as their puppet to attempt to sue to SEC when we left the XII.

I just don't know what else we could have done to continue the series.

We have home and home series' set up in the coming years with Clemson, Colorado, Miami and Norte Dame that we are excited about. Most of our fans have moved on and really no longer feel the necessity to play tu after how it all went down. We love being in the SEC and feel like we should have been here all along.

Not to mentioned tu put pressure on the rest of the Big 12 to avoid playing us as well.

Disagree. Fans of both sides are playing the hard to get game, acting like neither side misses the other, but deep down they both want to play if they could get their ego's out of the way.

Think about this A&M...you are probably sitting on a 5 game win streak over Texas if the rivalry never ended.

I understand what you are saying, but you need to realize that we did everything we could to continue the game. What more could A&M or the SEC have done to keep it going?

At some point you just have to move on and live your life.

BTW, A&M's official stance on the game is still "anytime, anywhere." Just so you know where the blame truly resides.

The simple answer is this:

Both programs will have to become convinced that playing the game is in their own best interest.

Most Ags do not believe it's in our best interest to play them right now. But that might change.

The line judge who called the bullshite personal foul call in the 2011 game that extended the final drive openly bragged on texags about his bias and was outed shortly after the game. Unless we can guarantee that the officials are completely neutral, you can't assume we would win based on talent alone.
