I was just glad Garcia didn't look to the left flat on South Carolina's last play because their RB would have walked in with the winning TD.
I remember screaming at the TV for him to look out in the flat because Maddox was WIDE OPEN. Garcia was maddening sometimes, brilliant others. If he kept his shite together off the field he could have been great I think.

I would remove 2005 LSU-Florida from that list. Tigers turned a blowout into a nialbiter due to turnovers and really sloppy play.

quote:The 90s had some classic games in the series as well. Everyone remembers the Barn Burner in '96, but overlooks the 31-28 thriller in Red Stick the following year. Here's a good writeup.
I feel like LSU-Auburn in the 2000s would dominate this thread.
Cecil the Diesel amassed 232 yards on just 27 carries (8.6 average) as LSU ran for a total of 377 against an AU rush defense that was outstanding that year - minus this game, AU gave up an average of 90 yards, and held UGa, Arky and SCarolina to a combined 65(!) yards on 97 attempts. Collins seemed unstoppable, but after a 42-yard TD run at the start of the 4th quarter to give LSU the 28-24 lead, he touched the ball only 4 more times (on consecutive plays, in fact) the rest of the game.
One of the most exciting of the series, overlooked because there wasn't anything particularly controversial about it (for a change).

2001 Tennessee/Florida. For some reason, whenever people talk about best games in league history this one gets overlooked. That game was an absolute classic between two great teams playing at a very high level on the same day.
If UF wins, they likely go on and destroy LSU in the SECCG and play Miami in Pasadena for the title.
Still one of the most frustrating losses I have witnessed.

Arkansas 71 Kentucky 63 (2003)
- the football game outscored their basketball game 9 months earlier the same calendar year (#3 UK 66 @ ARK 50)
1994 - #6 Auburn at #1 Florida...a 36-33 Tigers win and was UF's lone SEC loss that season.
1994 DSOR - unranked Georgia (5-4) at #3 Auburn (9-0)...23-23 tie ended Auburn's 20-game consecutive win streak. Auburn still had a chance to set up a AU/UF rematch in Atlanta until it fell in the IB by 7 the following saturday.

I'll get down voted but the 2011 Bama LSU game was a great game and was portrayed as boring nationally but despite the outcome I thought it was one of the best Bama LSU games I've ever seen.

I was at this game and honestly, even with 90,000 other people, I don't know how Garcia didn't hear me from across the field in the visitors sections.

That's what Tenn thought too, but they got Mauck'd. Prognostication Fail!

We were up 6 going into the 4th quarter and then turned it over 4 times... lost by 8
And you were behind the entire 4th quarter including 8 points at the end
That is not "almost winning"

LSU got destroyed in Baton Rouge that year already by UF 41-14.
UF was a bad matchup for LSU that year and everyone knew it.

Florida - Arkansas (2003) - Florida got up by 27 and Arkansas almost came back and won it.
Ole Miss - South Carolina (2004) - Back and forth all game. Ole Miss hits a 30 yard touchdown pass with 1 minute left to win.
Ole Miss - Florida (2002) - Ole Miss, after just getting beat by Texas Tech, takes down Florida
Alabama - Tennessee (2005) - Defense. 6-3. The Tennessee fumble going in for the score...
LSU - Alabama (2005) - Winner wins the West. 16-13 OT.
LSU - Alabama (2007) - The first game against Saban at Alabama. Saban took an inferior team and coached them up to where they should have beaten LSU. LSU fans knew they were in trouble with Miles. That said, the reverse pass to Matt Flynn, the 4th down conversion and touchdown to Devery Henderson, the Chad Jones strip...it was certainly an entertaining game.

LSU @ Georgia in 2013 was awesome. Two great quarterbacks in a shootout. Too bad LSU finished second!

Ole Miss - SC 2003 was a good one, too. I was a freshman, and we drove down for that game. Daccus Turman had a crazy run similar to Mike Dyer's in the 2010 BCSNCG.
Also, remember Pinkins to Noah Whitesides was on point in the second half.

2004: 10-9
Defensive struggle. Auburn scores to tie 9-9 with 1:30 to go. Misses the PAT. Get a retry due to a penalty. Makes it to give us the win 10-9.

2006: 7-3
Overturned Pass Interference call is probably what most people remember. LSU was just a few yards from winning the game.
We got screwed in these 2 games. Not even saying they were the wrong calls, just so rare. Like those were 2 ballsy calls at 2 crucial moments. Until recently when players started routinely jumping over the snapper, I am pretty sure that 2004 game was the only time I had ever seen that call. For it to end like that sucked. Then in 2006 I feel like it has to be a clear cut none PI for them to waive off that flag. Oh well, I guess 2005 and 2007 made me feel better about those losses.
Those were all great games, makes me wonder why SECN doesn't just constantly show re-runs of some of those classic games.

2012 Georgia-Florida
Sloppy game with a lot of turnovers, but two unquestionably great defenses slugging it out and the tension from the opening snap was as thick as I've ever felt it for a Georgia game.
Easily the hardest hitting Georgia game I've ever seen. Guys were knocking the shite out of each other all day. Gurley was a damn man that day against that defense.
