That was no where near the truth. Since I was raised in NC I know that that name was given to NC troops by fellow confederate soldiers during the civil war. The joke was that tar had to be put on NC soldiers feet to keep them from running away during battle.

Minus the jackass Roy Williams, UNC is a great school. I haven't pulled for them since the jackass has been there.

If you can't see the light hearted humor in my posts above...well, there isn't much hope for you. I enjoy the banter however. Tenner has been an afterthought for me for a while now based on the premise that we hardly ever play. Lsu is just fun to mess with. Psychologically speaking they seem a easy bunch to offend or frustrate. Not much of a sense of humor. We truly have no real rivalry in the sec. Neither does tamu..missouri...usc...for tbe5most part
All in fun

I think you might be overstating, but there was definitely a bit of a rivalry (at least from our fan's perspective) born out of the 98/99 games. Most Arkansas fans (including myself) would much rather play Tennessee annually than any other East team.

It's partly because of the natural carryover from years of hating the whorns. Y'all are UT. Y'all are orange. Also a great program with great tradition (Arkansans have a natural chip on their shoulder and I think subconsciously love the underdog role).

There's also some similarities between us. Both seen as mid-south hillbilly States. Both campuses are in mountainous regions. The Memphis connection breeds some recruiting battles occasionally.

I probably am although I did try to make clear it was only select group. It really does fascinate me and I a;ways love knowing where rivalries originate. Those early expansion games were fun as hell and like I said tArk fans have been some of the best IRL fans I've ever met. That probably has something to do with the mid-south/upper south culture we share which really is different from the rest of the south. We're southern but not Deep South.

I'd never really thought about how things could carry over from Texas but I suppose that makes some sense.

As for crossover games... I don't think we have room but we are a natural fit. It's a shame we don't play more as those were always fun games and many of them epic.

BTW, thanks for answering my question.
