Way back when the rich South Carolinians called the poorer people of the northern part of the state "Tar Heels" and eventually parted ways with the North Carolinians and the name stuck. It's actually a pretty cool/historic name if you ask me.

Gotta respect people to own the insults thrown their way. What would the SEC be without Corndogs and Gumps?

I will attempt to answer this very intelligently worded question in complete honesty.
Without Corndogs, the conference IQ would exponentially improve by a large sum.
Without Gumps, the conference would have several other teams win National Championships...
Hope I have been able to help.. Thanks, REV!

Hah. It's like we're Eagleton and North Carolina is Pawnee

That's a fine answer to a rhetorical question. Now tell me what we'd be without the Dickless Goat Molesters of Knoxville? I didn't mention them before because they always seem to get a bit upset when people call them that, which undermines my point.

I'll give you one of my precious and rare upvotes for the reference to one of my favorite shows.

The world would be a better place without corndogs.

As I deeply consider this superior question, showing a vast intellectual knowledge... Well, I must say that in today's world we must be inclusive in order to satiate the liberals among us.
In the SEC this includes various sexually repugnant, deviant, but however inclusive acts. Without the said Volunteers above, we would lose one of our most illustrious examples of inclusive simpletons and only be left with TAMU...
We do not want TAMU to feel lonely, now do we?
Thanks, REV!

I believe that's the first time I've ever heard that one. That being said, I suppose it's a good thing there aren't a lot of goats in the city to harass.

I know you're playing around (and FWIW, I appreciate the humor) but what is it with certain tArk fans' obsession UT? I see it all the time on here from a select bunch but have never understood it since we don't play regularly anymore. Is it the Stoerner fumble? It's just weird because I've seen it on other Ark based sites and I know folks in Ark, especially those closer to Memphis, talk about how much tArk sports shows have Tennessee on the brain and cover every little thing about us.
Is it the consumption of too much Tennessee based media (tv/radio out of our state)?
As an aside, I kinda miss the little series we had going during the first expansion. Arky fans were always a blast to hang out with on gamedays. Truly some of the best visiting SEC fans ever (you and the aforementioned corndogs who are also great visitors and a lot of fun to hang with are probably the best fans I've encountered on gamedays).
ETA: And to be clear, I'm not talking about just trolling us when we're down. The obsession has been an ongoing thing for ages.

I think you might be overstating, but there was definitely a bit of a rivalry (at least from our fan's perspective) born out of the 98/99 games. Most Arkansas fans (including myself) would much rather play Tennessee annually than any other East team.
It's partly because of the natural carryover from years of hating the whorns. Y'all are UT. Y'all are orange. Also a great program with great tradition (Arkansans have a natural chip on their shoulder and I think subconsciously love the underdog role).
There's also some similarities between us. Both seen as mid-south hillbilly States. Both campuses are in mountainous regions. The Memphis connection breeds some recruiting battles occasionally.

I always heard Tar Heels was what the north called the people in North Carolina during the civil war. It was something like a general said "those North Carolina boys are hard to get passed. It's like they got tar on their heels."
This is what my unc grad cousin told me once.
