Ealey had his eyes poked out? Dear goodness. He rant the ball pretty well after that even blind.

Spikes was a good kid. Just misunderstood and besides what does this have to do with the current Gator team? Richt is your current coach.

I was responding to one of your retarded posters who brought up everything that has happened in the UF vs UGA over the past few years, like that matters. What he doesn't realize is none of us like Richt either.

tl;dr

He is in one of the biggest recruiting hotbeds in the country so he will always have a talented team. His teams are typically undisciplined, penalty-ridden, and bound to fail at some point. They never seem to have the toughness to get over the hump or truly mount a comeback.

Good man and a decent coach that will never get it done in the SEC.

Be careful what you wish for, you never know what is behind door #2.

Richt has won consistently at UGA and he represents your school honorably. Outside of some discipline issues he has run a very solid program. He also has SEC Titles and BCS wins. IMO if a coach shows they are capable of winning the SEC and then winning their bowl they are capable of a NC. The question is if Richt has worn out his message.

The thing is it is a lot easier to go from a consistent 9+ win guy downward than it is to go upward.

A&M learned this lesson. In '02 we had the winningest coach in A&M football history and SWC history. He had 2 undefeated regular seasons and a Big 12 Title. A&M had 18 consecutive years without a losing season. Still, the program was in decline and we fired him and swung our dicks and hired the best coach available (most people didn't think he was available for that matter) in Fran. It has taken us a decade to recover. Hell most people on the Rant still think A&M has always sucked and it is as if that 18 year period didn't exist or is marginalized.

There are far more cases of failure than success when replacing a good coach. About the only one I can think of that worked out was replacing Johnny Majors with Phil Fulmer who got that elusive NC for UT. It is no easy task to replace a consistent winner that recruits very well with someone better.

The really funny thing is A&M went hard after Richt this offseason and likely would have gotten him had UGA not come through with the extension. So another interesting question would be, would you rather that had happened?

Proven to be a solid coach. No strong evidence yet that he's a great coach (but at certain points in their careers, most great coaches have been in the same position.) The question, obviously, is how long you wait to let him prove he is at that level.

My gut says he is not. Good coach, not great. But we may see differently if he stays long enough.

problem is he has had 12 years and several, not like 2 but more like 3-5, teams that he could have gone far with. he can not and will not do it. ever.

A&M had the checkbook to get Richt, he just didn't want to leave. He loves UGA and he is a serious family and community man. All he wanted was to feel like he was wanted there and had security. Once that happened he stuck.

I was a fan of getting Richt btw but I am very happy with Sumlin. I think we took a bit more of a risk but it is going to pay off big long term.
