What makes Auburn a more attractive job than Ole Miss?

Honestly asking. Both in the SEC West. Both likely a top 25 job

Recruiting is probably similar. Is it the boosters/money?

The only difference is that Auburns instate rival is seemingly always a top 4 team. I guess added pressure to match Alabama will propel Auburn forward?

Check the historical SEC standings since the SEC has been a thing.

We have been better at everything than them throughout our history. Hope this helps.

Ole miss can’t even fill their small stadium.

And 4-8 would be less than lateral

Auburn just gets a ton more exposure than Ole Miss in addition to the history/money/etc.

No offense to Ole Miss, which is a cool school, but it feels like a smallish program by SEC standards. Auburn has big ambassadors (Tim Cook, Barkley, Bo, etc.), it has big rivalries - hell it has big scandals.

It's just a bigger brand in every sense. Now whether you want to jump from Ole Miss to Auburn given you have a good thing going and the CFP is going to expand, etc., is a different question. But if both jobs were open it's extremely unlikely someone would choose Ole Miss over AU, if you want to think of it that way.

Auburn has played for a championship, won a championship, has gone undefeated or lost at least one game in every decade since the 70s.

If you have to narrow it down to 1 thing, it’s that AU probably have a better recruiting footprint in Auburn’s home state of Georgia.

Nope. We're smack dab in the middle of some of the most fertile recruiting ground in the country.

Auburn's alumni base has more money, they have a better stadium, and they have better overall football history. Taken without context, this is a no-brainer for Lane.

Taken with context, going to Auburn would mean a full rebuild of their roster, playing Georgia every year instead of Vanderbilt, and a lateral move in terms of location (Oxford and Auburn are both small college towns).

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about Auburn stealing Kiffin away, but he has some pretty good reasons to stay. We have a talented roster, have an 8-1 record, and are still mathematically in contention for the SEC West. Kiffin would not have that at Auburn for at least two seasons. It all comes down to what Kiffin wants long term - does he want a blue blood job a few years down the line, or does he want the small school job with good money and moderate expectations?

The Rebs expanded their stadium to 66K just 6 years ago. Aubbie's stadium is, ballpark, 87K. Do the math at conservatively $50 a ticket. That's one big reason. Not sure how the NIL money in each state works out, but it would seem Alabama can offer more opportunities; both states have 2 schools competing for that dollar.

The fact that people are even debating this shows that it’s a lateral move.

Ole Miss to Bama? Nobody debates that.

But people debate Auburn / Ole Miss because, well, it’s debatable and unclear.
