My dad and I sat in those end zone bleachers under that late summer North Mississippi sun, sweat and bourbon and ghosts of the past swirling in the air, my love for Ole Miss was so cemented that I decided then and there it was my family duty to go to
Missouri

Standing here in the exquisite humidity of the seemingly unending emerald of the delta, sweating like a glass of sweet tea, I'm reminded that sometimes the sins of the father are paid for by the son; who will bear this burden for the Rebels of Mississippi is yet to be seen

What about when he went to New Orleans for the 10th anniversary of Katrina and somehow became ESPN'S soul of New Orleans commentator?

"It is a place imbued with honor where the broad magnolia trees scrape the southern sky. A land of mist, of family, and of legends. Ask any person within 100 miles of Oxford to put a price on tradition; they will invariably utter the same reply their daddies and granddaddies did before them: '$15,700 and a hunting trip.'"

There's better writing in two pages of this thread than has ever been penned by Wright Thompson.
Holy shite.

Growing up 325 miles and attending college 800 miles from Nola made him uniquely qualified. Also he talks like the judge from my cousin vinny and is willing to score his stories with fiddles

This guy and Marty Smith are walking cliches. Could do without either of them.

Marty Smith
See, Marty is hokie and eye roll inducing but he's also a legit Appalachian NASCAR/football dude and he's been acting that way for 15 years.
I don't necessarily like it, but it's not a big production. It's just how he works.

Also Marty doesn't use words like "homespun", "idyllic", or "halcyon" when reporting on a fricking football team

I'm pretty sure my 12th grade AP English teacher would have failed Wright Thompson for that busy thesaurus garbage.

Go back and YouTube his intro to the Bama/Notre Dame game about the city of Miami. I think you have underplayed the level of overwrought prose.
