fricking barbecue. If you can't find it on game day, you damn well better be in Louisiana, because that's the only acceptable excuse.

Just to clarify, this isn't because we don't cook at our tailgates. We just prefer food that originated in our state. Jambalaya, Gumbo, Cochon de lait, Boudin, Etoufee, etc. Louisiana dominates the south in terms of food and food culture. Food is good in most SEC states, but it's most unique in Louisiana.

Try the entire campus. Prepare to have your mind blown when you start traveling to our campuses.

You haven't really traveled much, have you?

I've been to pretty much all the SEC campuses and they aren't any better than Mizzou's campus. I've even been out to the college bars in Tuscaloosa, Auburn and Opelika and they are complete dives and shitholes.

That's why they're "college bars". They're not supposed to be fancy. But they're fun and have cheap drinks and hot chicks.

Tailgating starting on Thursdays at the latest.

Being loud from before the first whistle until the band has left the stadium.

If this were true, then LSU wouldn't qualify as an SEC team. Nobody is tailgating on a Thursday unless you are talking about a few students sitting on a couch in front of the frat house - at the earliest, tailgating starts Friday afternoon. And regardless of who we are playing, unless the game is close and up for grabs in the 4th qtr., the stadium is rarely full for the end of the game.

Only because the visiting SEC teams buy up all your tickets.

If you haven't been to Supper Club in Auburn, then you have no valid opinion on Auburn bars. Auburn doesn't have the "fanciest" of bar scenes. We have places that will get you drunk as hell and give you a good time. If you have a problem with that then you can just get out. Did you go to UT, UGA, Ole Miss bars?

He didn't mean the asthetics of the campus itself. He meant the magnitude of the tents and cookouts and the seas of whatever color of the campus you're at, that stretch for miles around. You'll get 93,000 in Death Valley for any game, and you'll get that same amount outside. Tailgating is serious, gameday is serious. It's gonna take y'all a little while to fit in. That being said, welcome.

SEC Culture can be summed up with the list of most important sports seasons.

1. Football Season
2. There is no No. 2
3a. Spring Football Season
3b. Football Recruiting Season
4. Baseball Season
5. Basketball Season

Tailgating is important for all school activities.

Missouri touches more southern states than a lot of other southern states do. Its just butthurt, don't pay'em any attention. Some people have no concept of geography. As long as I can get sweet tea in Mizzou I'm good with y'all.

Don't wear cargo shorts, or a jersey (jersey unless you're under 12 years old)

and Drink Bourbon.

I've seen RVs and people setting up on Thursdays. It isn't doable for the majority of fans, but the ones who can, do. Friday night at the latest? Our professors used to let us out mid-day or even cancel Friday classes so we could hit the stadium early.

Some fans leave Death Valley early, but the stadium doesn't empty out like it does at some schools. We have a lot of die-hard fans who are willing to sit through a game we're obviously going to lose, just to support the team.

Disregard the "hate" replies...most of it is good fun. Things you need to know...

1). College sports are more important than the pro sports. My 6 yr old son cries if LSU loses, but only gets mildly upset if the Saints lose. If the Cardinals or Rams ae more important thatn Mizzou, you are not culturally prepared.
2). Tailgating is not for amateurs. It is as much a part of the Saturday experience as the game itself. No mini-grill cooking up weenies. Make enough to share your grub...and in your neck of the woods we expect some kickass dry rubbed BBQ.
3). We rib each other hard, especially our rivals. However, no one outside of the conference can rib on an SEC school. Now you are family. You may be retarded, but you're our retarded.
4). Lastly, don't show up at a game with your Wal-Mart Mizzou t-shirt. Spend some dough on some nice gear and show some pride. SEC fans don't look like Iowa fan. We may be drunk, but at least we look like we have a home to go to after the game.

The 70 yr old retired couple driving in early from Shreveport to reserve their RV spot on a Thursday is not tailgating.

This. If I'm in some fancy bar, It just feels like i'm going to break something. If I can find a place with great drinks, great atmosphere, and fantastic girls, I'm good to go. It could be in a treehouse for all I care.
