Newman could still turn pro and possibly be a late first rounder this year. Like LSUButt said, the roster isn't full empty. You returned some quality seniors with the two best players coming in in the state of MS that were top 100 guys

Since there is only one road in and out of Starkville, we can all guess his exit strategy.

The problem with the quality players who returned and the two big gets from MS is they are mostly guards with the exception of Ware, which is why we've gone with a 3 guard starting lineup most of the year. Ware is pretty good offensively but he isn't a defensive presence like you have to have to be a successful team (not just speaking in terms of SEC success).

You should see State turning the corner next season, although I expects some growing pains early as the young guys get used to playing together and Howland settles on his lineup/rotation.

Howland couldn't get a job for three years despite several openings. I'm pretty sure he will retire at MSU. No one wants to touch him.

I am hoping Howland stays around 6 seasons or so and retires.

He's averaging 13 pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, shooting 42% from 3-PT range this year. He isn't exactly a giant bust.

It was two years and he really wasn't floating his name out to begin with. With the scrutiny he received after the UCLA debacle, State is really the perfect scenario for him at the moment. It gives him a chance to get away from the West Coast and take on a low risk opportunity all while revamping his reputation. Win a few games with practically a nobody in the scheme of the college basketball landscape and move on to greener pastures in the ACC/Big East. A classic redemption story as old as time.

Newman has played well in conference play. All three of the freshmen look promising.

I have no inside knowledge as to whether Newman will stay or not. My feeling is that he would benefit from one more season of college ball, but that may just be me being a selfish fan.

I would argue that we are more like the Autistic kid. Yeah we are still disabled, but at least we are good at something (baseball).

I think he's gone no matter what happens the rest of the season.

I could see that. I don't really follow this type of thing or know how it works as MSU has not had a lottery pick since Dampier.

Oh ok, yeah I think he could definitely make himself a lot of money by returning for a second year if that is the case.

So you're implying that since Newman has struggled as much as he has, everyone else will? You can't be that dumb.

Yeah 13 ppg is pretty solid for a freshman.

Newman is leaving. He is getting healthier and will be picked mid to late first round when it's all said and done.

Personally, I wish he was staying.
Malik, Q with Eli Wright and Jamar Peters would be nasty.
