Nice try

Ok. I said I liked the show.

The point is that Louisiana people have no standing to talk trash about the State of Alabama. And we have no standing to talk trash about Louisiana.

I don't know about the rest of Alabama, but I believe half the state of Louisiana visits Alabama beaches every year. Folks wear a lot of purple!
that's because Louisiana doesn't have much of a beach shore anymore from coastal erosion over the years from Hurricanes, so it's not like they wanna do it they are just forced to!

Coonass stomping around the bayous of South Louisiana killing alligators are no diff. than the country boys on the back roads in Selma Al plowing up the fields and running chicken farms.

Both are unique to each state and pride themselves on what they do which is living off the land w/out the help of no one!

You can make fun of the swamp people but you can't deny their capability and toughness which is also a reflection of the great people of Louisiana.

I agree. No one is bashing Louisiana. We are just saying that Louisiana has no standing to bash Alabama.

I would love to go on an alligator hunt.

Go to the beach, go to bars that dont close at 2:00am when the partys just getting started, hunt, fish, deep sea fish, Nascar, Space Center, See where Mardi Gras started and the best Mardi Gras besides New Orleans, See the top colleg football players from the country play in the Senior Bowl, damn there is alot to more as well.

I have lived in both states and La. may have the best food but Alabama has a much better quality of life really.

that's what makes LA exciting, their swamps are more diverse than Florida's, you are liable to see anything in and around there, a python might fall off a branch into your boat!

I think coastal towns across the southern states have more in common than they do with the other parts of each state.

Its a Gulf Coast mindset really.

No kidding...I heard they wanted to call it "Incest people" but decided against that.

Really? Having a unique culture, with world-class food, distinct music, and a lot more places to party makes this a slam dunk win for Louisiana.

Heck, you can have more fun in NOLA alone than in the entire state of Alabama.

I'm not trying to be mean here, it's just that Alabama doesn't stand out from it's neighbors. The line between Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida is blurred. Same food, same music, nearly the same accents...

Louisiana's unique culture is why tourists like to visit it, but wouldn't want to live there. I love NOLA on a once a year weekend trip, but would die before I moved there.

Again, I'm not bashing Louisiana. I'm just saying that it is no better than Alabama.

True statement.
I love how Louisiana has all the characteristics of the traditional South + lagniappe... a little something extra

The problem is getting people to visit Alabama and come away thinking they've accomplished something.

One Bible Belt state is pretty much like another. North Louisiana is like that. If I could gerrymander state lines, I'd have a state that hugged the Gulf Coast...now that'd be a state!

You can do anything in Louisiana you can do in Alabama. The reverse is not true.

Having a unique culture,

Very true. Nice to come visit. Not to live. Like Mexico has unique culture and people that speak funny. Still wouldnt want to live or raise a family there.

quote:

world-class food
No doubt! La. wins hands down! (except for gumbo. Gumbo in Mobile/Gulf Shores is muchg better than La. gumbo, to me. Not watered down like soup)

quote:

distinct music,

Very true. Mobile has Jimmy Buffet. He has a distinct sound! I'll give you that one too! La. wins on music.

quote:

and a lot more places to party

Outside of New Orleans, La. is a horrible place to party. New Orleans is fun to party for a night or so, but you might get murdered.
Alabama bars stay open 24/7. BIG PLUS! No closing at 2:00am like pussies. Plus you can party on the beach. Dont see as many people flocking to New Orleans in the Summer as you do Gulf Shores. Plus Alabama started Mardi Gras! I'd say its a push.

quote:

nearly the same accents...

pssst, most all other southern states sound the same. La. sounds like you need a passport. Like a poor mans franch.

Again, I have lived in both for long periods of time and hate to say, but Alabama has a much better quality of life. Alot cleaner and more to do. Just a fact.

Yeah... I don't think that's exactly unique to Alabama...

I guess you've never been to Lafayette, Nachitoches, Bossier City, or the Florida parishes?

Alabama has a beach AKA "The Redneck Riviera" as coined by Jimmy Buffett. I will give you the beaches...but why you would choose Alabama beaches over either Florida or Mississippi beaches is beyond me.

There are plenty of nice places to live and raise a family in Louisiana. But the topic of this thread is "What in hell is there to do in Alabama?"

Louisiana wins in this category, for all the reasons I and others have listed. Alabama is a nice place, but it's part of a region.

Louisiana stands out from it's neighbors. Alabama, not so much.
