They would be better but to what end? Vandy will never win the SEC, go to the playoff, or win the national title.

he would have never survived the court decision that found 3 of his 4 players guilty of aggravated rape and the 4th facilitating aggravated rape -

he left before it all went to trial - before he would have been removed as coach -

He never lost to Kentucky, but he never beat South Carolina. He beat Georgia, Florida and Tennessee in the same year.

Vanderbilt deserves a better HC than Franklin - he wins a lot of games against bad teams in the b10 and never beats the good ones -

Then Auburn would have comfortably won the trophy for worst football program in the SEC the last few years.

Franklin brought some legitimate talent to Vanderbilt, but he also realized how much work that was and how much steeper the gradient was to the next level.

Franklin isn't a good coach.

Franklin made Vandy a tough out for sure. Back then there were 3 coaches overachieving in the SEC East. James Franklin at Vandy, Steve Spurrier at South Carolina, and Gary Pinkel at Missouri. Those 3 coaches made Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida have down years.

My biggest what if is if Urban Meyer had stayed at Florida. All those SEC Championship Games Between Saban's Alabama and Meyer's Florida would have been epic.

Too much stress. Meyer is a great recruiter and a solid game day coach but he can't handle the stress of big time college football for long stretches of time.

Look at his stay at Ohio State. Great the first few years when they were walking over everyone on the schedule. Then, while still winning a ton of games every year, that started to change. The goober aged in dog years and bailed out.

Florida is more stressful than Ohio State. He never could have lasted that long there.

Agree that Urban's health should have been his #1 concern.

Coach Saban seems to thrive on the stress. I wouldn't be surprised if he had another 10 years left in him.
