Like thats gonna happen !
The year long playoff would be cool. No need to have schedules made in advance. No one would know their opponent until a week before the game. No need to hear certain teams fans whining about preserving traditional rivalries. It'd be great !

this would be fantastic and I 100% support 8 team playoff.

That would be so lame
Is this by any chance because y'all would have to play Ohio State again?

No, just the whole 8 team thing depresses me. 4 teams works great 8 team playoff plus conference championship games would be a bit much

OSU and Iowa are perfect examples of the problem with 8 this year.
OSU would know if they lost to MSU they still make the playoff if they simply beat Michigan, AND OSU knows they don't even have to play in the CCG.
Iowa knew going into that game even if they lost they would be in the top 8 likely, so why worry about injuries
That's the opposite side of the argument at least

I think 8 is where it ends up. The interesting thing is, I don't see this years too 4 seeds all coming out of the first round. I also don't think it would take long at all for a 5-8 seed to win the whole thing.

I fricking hate it. We already have at least an 8 team PO. You got to count the Conference Championship games. Every one of those are an elimination game. And how many season games were an elimination game? And don't give me that argument that it would allow you to lose more games. I don't want to have to play any SEC team again. I actually think 4 is too many. I would like to go back to 2.

These are good points, and there would have to be some incentive to be in the top 4. Byes obviously don't work with 8, but maybe the first round is a home game for the top 4 seeds.

I think 16 is the correct number.

I figure this because there aren't four deserving teams and most certainly not eight. The NFL is an awful example. People bitch about 7-5 teams making Bowl games yet .500% in the NFL for playoffs is great? Get outta here.

5 conference champs and 3 at large teams.
Been a proponent of this if you are to go 8, but I go back and forth between that and 6 teams (1/2 get byes).

As for the OP:
quote:
1st Round:
#1 Clemson (13-0) vs. #8 Notre Dame (10-2)
#2 Alabama 12-1 vs. #7 Ohio State (11-1)
#3 Michigan State (12-1) vs. #6 Stanford (11-2)
#4 Oklahoma (11-1) vs. #5 Iowa (12-1)

OR... go back to the BCS so you don't lose the regular season.
I always thought they should keep the BCS adn just take the top 4. A conference champ that has 3 losses wouldn't automatically go just bc they're the conference champ. And I think 4 teams is perfect. If you're ranked 8th after 13 games you don't deserve a shot, sorry.

Never going to happen, but relegation and promotion would be great. Top four leagues would be 20 teams each, and each league divided in two 10 team leagues. Nine league games, play for championship. Bottom four teams relegated. Top four teams promoted. You can fill in 2-3 games with traditional rivalries, etc., but they don't count toward relegation and promotion. (Texas/OU, Alabama/Auburn remain, even though they may be in different divisions).
Every league matters a whole lot because of relegation. Recruiting still competitive because relegation/promotion potential. Perennial teams tend to stay perennial, but that's okay.
Last three or four weeks of season are nailbiters, because teams fighting to stay in division or move up or down.
