FYI, he arrived late and EMCC had an established starting quarterback from the previous year.

I still think Auburn should've gambled on Jerod Evans as quarterback. Rhett Lashlee was at his game when he scored 6 touchdowns, and for some reason an offer wasn't given. Instead Auburn went with John Franklin III.

They had good QB play in 2014 & Gus found ways to fugg it up.

Auburn is finished until they find a head coach. They dont have one.

That doesn't make much sense? Like many teams Auburn slightly over achieved in 2013 and slightly under achieved in 2014. People on here act like the sky is falling.

Looking at the QB play last year an argument could be made 2015 Auburn over achieved. Keep in mind the preseason hype is irrelevant. What matters is the info gained when you actually watch teams play games.

You mean the defense, right?

Auburn scored 44 against Alabama. Lost.
Auburn scored 38 against Texas A&M. Lost.
Auburn scored 31 against Wisconsin. Lost.

The only game really lost by the offense was against Georgia.

If Auburn has a 4.4 QB run the offense with a serviceable arm they are hard to beat. Sean White will not win but a Nick Marshall type will.

No other team, save Oregon, depends on their QB as much as Auburn. He HAS to be basically another running back. If he cant run with the DB's they are a 6 or 7 win team at best. They dont play for either title without Cam and Marshall. They were such threats as runners you couldnt load up to stop the RB. Why a Sean would even go to Auburn just baffles me. Why Auburn would sign a Sean White is even more baffling.

This guy gets it.

I loved Sean White as a recruit and love his potential, but not in Auburn's offense. He would thrive in an offense like that of Wisconsin, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, etc.

In all honesty Auburn just missed on a couple of highly rated DT types in that cycle. SW was at best a back up plan. He does some things well, but size and down field accuracy will limit him at this level. I don't believe it is just an Auburn offense issue for him either.

That being said, he plays with a ton of heart and appears to have the "it" factor that teammates look for in a QB. I also would preface my thoughts on him that he was young last year and could grow into the role. I am just skeptical he possesses the skills to do much more than win 8 or 9 games.

But what set NM apart was between his ears. Dudes mind just never got freaked out. Was one of the coolest customers I have ever seen.

That is what I doubt Franklin has. I have to see that to believe it. (I am also still suffering post JJ PTSD)

Any team that gets good quarterback play is gonna have a shot to win most games.

No they didn't. Chad Kelly was the starting QB the previous year.

I stand corrected. That's what I read during his recruitment.

I just want more touchdown passes than interceptions.

Last year has left me pretty shell shocked about our qb situation.

I like Sean White, but am not sure he can survive a full season. JF3 seems to have a lot of upside, but playing in the SEC will be a whole new level.

JJ just makes me sad. I hope the kid gets it together, but a season like last year can mentally ruin a qb.

You mean the defense, right?

That's a decent point, except your defense is always suspect with Gus. You expect that. Your defense gave up a ton of points in 2013, too, but you went to the National Championship. So, in reality, your defense did what it always does. It was your offense that regressed, therefore caused you problems.

Don't get me wrong, you could have done well had you gotten some defense, but that has never been a Gus strong suit.

That's because he was so used to seeing blue lights showing up in his rear view mirror. Why would a defensive lineman scare him if the police couldn't?

No doubt it was ugly for you guys last year.

The good news?

It has to get better.

Scoring defense needs to be in the low 20's historically for Gus to be successful. In the modern game that isn't horrible. In 2014 the biggest issue was the inability to get off the field on 3rd down caused by a non-existent pass rush...no Carl Lawson. A decent Defensive mind like CWM solved this problem in 2 games by moving Cass to pass rusher in those situations once Carl got hurt in 2015. One can only wonder if this thought had crossed Ellis' mind instead of inserting free safety Brandon King into that role in 2014.
