Honestly, I'm surprised MSU isn't called out more often on this. In almost every year during Mullen's tenure, they've played at a G5 team's stadium. In '15, they aren't going to play any P5 teams. In '14, they didn't play any P5 teams. In '12, they didn't play a P5 team and played TWO FCS teams. In '11, they played no P5 team. In '10, they played no P5 team.

'09 and '13 were the two exceptions, and they got romped by Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State when they tried to get brave.

Edit, Actually, they played @ a G5 in 2009, too. They just also played Georgia Tech.

State's schedule is part of the reason why they're rarely in the national discussion past November. The get overrated by playing weak teams and then crushed in conference play.

Just in the last 4 or 5 years I know they've also played @ UAB, @ Troy, and @ South Alabama.

Whatever schools like that have they played at? Somebody help me out

Would that make 38-23 sting a little less?

Also, I like playing USM home and home. Kinda wish we'd do it every year to spark the old rivalry. No, they aren't a good program, but they have the potential to put together good teams every once in a while. Would be a lot like Tulane/LSU renewing their old rivalry.

Are you joking? We hear this ALL the time. Not saying it's not deserved because we do have a very weak OOC, but you're preaching to the choir.

Seems like we are going to be getting some decent competition in the coming years, so you'll need to shite on State for another reason

Ehh made a better bowl and finished the regular season with the same amount of wins as your GOAT season, so you know the feeling.

Both Mississippi schools have no P5 teams scheduled for 2015, and both are playing at a G5 stadium.

Sorry for only playing Texas two years in a row, the AAC champions on the road next year, the WAC champions and then opening with Florida State in 2016.

you know that in todays college football, the cotton bowl and the orange bowl are basically equal right? not to mention that we didnt embarrass the conference and actually won our bowl and finished ranked in the top 5 with our heisman trophy winner and our top 2 NFL draft pick. but yea outside of that, MSU totally had a better year this year than we did in 2012

I've been here for two years and have under 500 posts, so I guess I just don't pay enough attention.

I just looked up your upcoming OoC slate, and you actually sre scheduling quite a few respectable opponents, all the way from '16 through at least '23. So, good job for that.

A few years ago we all would have been pointing and laughing at State for playing USM on the road. Not so much for going to a G5 school's stadium, but for being dumb enough to stick their pecker into the meat grinder of playing the Golden Eagles in their own backyard.

Obviously Southern Miss has fallen off a cliff in the last few years but they were a legit mid major power for a good long while. When State signed to play them they were rolling the dice.

Yes, the Mississippi schools have it soft this year OOC, but Ole Miss has scheduled tough foes before and I think State will follow them. This is one of those time when a team schedules what looks like a solid opponent... only to have them turn to crap. It happens.

They're no Samford, Georgia State, College of Charlston and Wofford for sure.

State played Oregon, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, BYU and Okie State when every other team in the SEC was loading up on every cream puff directional school they could buy a game from. We have done our time.
