What are the rules about something like this? You have a group of young kids that accepted impermissible benefits during their recruitment. The NCAA knows about it and has proof.
Will they be ineligible? Can they transfer without restrictions?
I feel bad for those kids.

The players' pets are sold on eBay as mascots for other schools as well, you know.

They have to be, since the players get the death penalty. Someone will have to take care of the pets.

Great news.
These kids might get a second chance.

Why would a bowl ban this year make Patterson transfer?

If there is a bowl ban, it's going to be for more than 1 year. Likely 2-3 years.
Also, there is a very good chance this won't be resolved until after the season, so the ban will start next year.

what, specifically, do you think we're guilty of that warrants a 2-3 year bowl ban?
