I'd say this is pretty much spot on. Although I'd be ok with losses to both UGA and A&M if we beat both UF and Bama. The opposite would not be true.

You shouldn't be ok with a loss to Kevin Rumlin.

Fo sho. I think a lot of Vols are excited (the Mrs. included) and rightfully so, but it's amazing how precarious of a season this really is for you guys. I agree, I don't think that after 2016 it's like you fall off a cliff, it just is no longer teed up for you. You'll be playin' out of the rough if you will.

Just goes to show how fine a line there can be between success and failure sometimes.

Ordinarily I would not. But in my scenario Butch would have redeemed himself the next week by beating Bama.

Les is not on Hot seat, he will retire at end of 2017 as planned. I wouldn't be surprised if Satan joined him.

That's a dangerous one. I have the UT game down as a loss for us most likely (along with Ole Miss). If we win it, then you're hoping we lose to UF, Ole Miss + 1 additional SEC opponent to make it to Atlanta. I don't know what to expect from Auburn next season. I don't envision a drastically improved USC this year (probably 17 for them), similar story for Mizzou (though likely 18 better outlook for them), and dunno what to expect from Vandy/UK but assuming more of the same. It's not impossible that we could lose 3 SEC games, but definitely not probable if we win the UT matchup. That might be the only scenario where hotseat doesn't come up simply due to taking out both UF and UA. Interesting.

For sure

I mean we were two stopped 4th and longs away from having a UT Ole Miss SECCG, so the line can definitely be razor thin.

But yep, it'll never be more of a clear shot to Atlanta for us than this season. There will be a lot of Butch doubters and even haters if we mess this up, and deservedly so. Then again, sports are weird, so maybe we blow it this year and somehow win it in 17. Who knows.

For most of these guys it is no so much wins and losses but rather looking good in the areas that the fans are frustrated about.

This. I don't have a set number of wins where I would say Gus is or isn't in trouble. It is more about how the team looks and performs and why. In 2012 Chizik got fired, not so much for the win total but because we were not competing and were getting blown out with many games over by halftime. On the other hand, last year we were within 1 score of every team we played in the 4th quarter. Hell we may have beat bama if Muschamp hadn't lost his mind in a one possession home game in the 4th.

So, it isn't all about wins and losses when deciding if a change is warranted.

7 probably, but the heat would be scorching. Just think JJ would hesitate to attach the stigma to AU about firing 2 coaches who take you to the MNC after 4 years. Fanbase will be different though. I think Gus gets through the 17 season barring off field issues or a 3-9 type season.

Needs to make a bowl game. Biggest thing is to follow up on a pretty successful SEC run last year with something decent and to not drop any games to terrible teams.

Malzahn's job, I think, has less to do with wins and more to do with his offensive capabilities. He can go 7-5 with an electric offense and probably keep his job if the 5 wins are because of defensive failures.

Just my humble opinion.

In order of the hottest seat to the coldest, in my opinion it's: Sumlin (8), Malzahn (9), Miles(9), Beliema(8), Butch (8), and then Stoops (6).

The numbers beside their names are the amount of games I think they will need to win to keep their jobs.

Sumlin is going to have to do a lot better than 8 games to keep his job.

Only 8 wins means losses to Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee at a minimum, all teams outrecruiting him.

No. He could go 0-12 and we're still adding his name to the stadium
