Shannon was hired for recruiting south Florida.
The rest is just window dressing.

I think the fact Mcelwain hired his own replacement from Bama is going to be weird around the office.

Honestly the only Coach that worries me is Nussmeier otherwise I see it as upgrades (HC, LBs), and pushes (DC) across the board with possible exception of DBs but that's more of a recruiting hit than a coaching one- for all the talk about Muschamp it's not like he did much to boost Florida's defense, our pre-Boom defenses and our Boom defenses are essentially the same with a slight edge to the defense before he arrived on campus given that the offenses those units were paired with didn't run the clock to inflate defensive stats.

I believe what a poster said before is true. I think they liked his connections but as he said I heard he was lazy. the word they used was "cruise control". he wasn't fired, but I'm not sure he is missed either way. we just hired the LB Coach that coached under shannon at miami. so really it mitigated some of the loss of connections and he seems to be a fine Coach as well.

Jim McElwain- Head coach (Alabama, Colorado State)
Could end up being anywhere from C- to B, but I'll stick with a B because having Florida talent is hard to screw up with (Looking at you, Boom).
Doug Nussmeier- Offensive coordinator (Alabama, Michigan)
For a much needed revamp in the offense, this wasn't that great of a hire. C.
Randy Shannon-Linebacker (Miami)
I believe he is also co-DC, am I wrong? This guy should be y'all's outright DC. Look what he did at Miami. A+for being on the staff, but gets an overall hire is a B for not being outright DC when he's gotta much better track record than:
Geoff Collins- Defensive coordinator (Miss State)
B- if he was your only DC, but C- since you could have just not hired him if Shannon is also a DC.

Mcelwain - Like the guy, but wasn't my choice. However; he could be very good. Has the charisma and offensive mind to win here. His recruiting right now is questionable, until you dig deeper. He is doing exactly what Saban and Fisher did their first years. Establishing roots. His 2017 class already looks strong, and he closed strong last year. So I'm thinking more positively as of right now. B+
Doug - Great QB coach and develops well. Decent recruiter. Questionable play caller when things aren't working. Does have two title rings at the position though. B
Geoff- His pass D was suspect at Miss State, but his red zone D and run D is outstanding. With our secondary, I'm not to worried. Love his recruiting and energy - B+
Shannon - A - Great Miami ties, and very good LB coach
Skipper - B - - Great recruiter already proving that. Did coach Ryan Matthews as well but limited experience on this side.
Nord - D - Nothing impressive about him
Summers - A+ - One of the best Oline coaches in the country. His one year improvement last year was remarkable.
Rumph - A - Great Dline coach, great recruiter
Callahan - C - Seems like a reach, average all around but could become good in time. Solid recruiting personality but his DB recruiting so far is rather crappy for Florida.
Dixon - F - Worst hire by far. Position we really needed a good coach we got an absolute nobody
Kent - A+ - His S&C program has lead to far fewer injuries, and incredible gains this offseason. Freaking A++++

Florida should be well aware of our LB coach, VHII.

I dont think you put in perspective the difficulty of recruiting DBs when we are so loaded...even though VH3 might leave this year...we still have sophs/juniors up the ying yang...plus the secondary is one of the easiest to have true/redshirt frosh ready to play.
Of course having his dad at one of the best high school talent beds in Fla. doesnt hurt.
The jury is still out for me somewhat on the overall hires and we will see the results shortly. Its hard to wait for things to happen...New Mexico State wont be measuring tool...East Carolina will provide more insight into our team and coaching...after UT we definitely should be dialed in. Dont be surprised if we lose to UK in upset and then come out swinging. Thats if our offense struggles...if it doesnt then UK wont be able to stay on the field long with us.

Honestly, if we don't start 4-0, Mcelwain isn't the coach Bama fans have been telling us he is, Ole Miss is the first team that should be a real challenge and even then I don't see a more than 50% shot at a loss until LSU (an inexperienced starter in Freeze's offense in which a multi-year starter still throws a decent number of picks against the best secondary in America, I like our chances if we can even score 17)-- now after LSU things are bad as both UGA and FSU are run dominant teams which attacks one of the holes Muschamp left (LB- seriously some of his recruiting was in retrospect almost malicious-- “I'll leave you short so of you fire me you're screwed") so that's two more but Mizzou is a toss up and we have another 2 gimme's and a down USCe. If we don't win at least 8 overall and at least 5 in the SEC, Mac won't be able to hit the recruiting spots he needs and will start 2016 a little behind the 8 ball.

Ole Miss defensive front is going to shread UF's OL. If UF scores more than 10 points on its own (without special teams or defense giving short fields) I would be shocked. UF only wins if Ole Miss QB situation is shite.
UF matches up much better with Missouri and LSU actually, but of the three mentioned, Mizzou is probably their best chance to steal one just because they aren't as good up front this year.

The DB recruiting is a bit strange this off season, certainly. IDK if that is all on Callahan though. Just because he is the position coach doesn't mean he is the one making all the recruiting decisions.

Then when Vern leaves to a better program too , it will be because Arkansas didn't want him. If you guys are right then Bert needs to do a better job hiring coaches , he has had a lot leave in his first 2 years. Maybe the coaches are leaving because they want to win and 1 conference win a year is not good enough for them plus they see what is coming , everyone getting a pink slip.

We gave up 12 million passing yards to UAB.
Because State doesn't have the caliber of players as UF does dipshite...

I think you may be overestimating things here. Understand a new coaching staff needs time to get things together. Crap even Saban struggled his first year at Bama. It happens. Especially early in the year. I would expect we struggle early and grow better as the season progresses with a lot of unknown pieces. New QB, new Oline, need to find play makers at receiver besides Robinson and Mcgee. A lot of moving parts here for a first year coach. Luckily there are no games on our schedule we can't win. There aren't. There are however; a ton we can lose. So if you are expecting ten wins, you will probably be asking a little to much.

I read that Boom is bashing Callahan's father for being honest with him about recruits now that Boom is at Auburn even though he hired the son.
That frickin' guy.
