People want to harp on The University of Georgia for underachieving in the big 3 sports year in and year out, and only excelling in sports that "don't matter" (country club). But what about Texas A&M? They have all the big oil tycoon boosters, a state that has all the resources (so their residents think so, otherwise they wouldn't want to separate from the Union). They are nearby 2 very large metro areas (larger than Atlanta).. ..... yet they have a mediocre football history, a dismal basketball history, and a laughable baseball history. Is there any reason to this? I know I live in the Deep North and all, and Texas A&M is pretty irrelevant up here, so enlighten me SEC brethren.

To answer your question. A&M's overall athletic profile wasn't a priority until bill Byrne took over as AD. The department was shortsighted, underfunded, and ran by the good ole boy system for many years. Being an all male military school for so long is part of the A&M identity that is loved, yet stifled growth and diversity.

35,000 students attend football games yet reed arena can't find 13,000 total fans to come to a game. So you tell me why basketball won't ever be good

A&M football hasn't done much throughout history, but with the resources mentioned + SEC, just wait and see. No more competing against texas schools for recruits in a localized SWC. The SEC recruits itself for A&M
