You’ve made several snide remarks, in fact.

First time that’s happened on the Rant. My sincere apologies.

Not especially.

In aggregate today, you come across as a someone who’s been scorned.

I think the template on the Rant is that if you’re posting about something, it’s because you’re mad. That’s not how real life works. At least not for me. You might want to recalibrate your assessment abilities.

Honestly, you could stand to follow your own advice regarding the recalibration of assessment capabilities. But it’s a message board, so none of us will be perfect in that regard.

This melt is incredible. Is this going to last all offseason?

If by melting, you mean posting, yes.

You are usually a pretty even keeled, level headed poster on here. But you have lost your shite the last twelve hours over this Baker hire. He may end up being the greatest coach ever. But at this point he has spent 5 years as a coach at major programs; 2 years as Miami’s DC/safeties coach; 1 year as LSU’s LB coach, and 2 years as Mizzou’s DC/LB coach.

As DC at Miami in 2019 he gave up 42 to Virginia Tech (a loss) and 30 to Florida International (a Miami loss… to FIU).

As DC at Miami in 2020 he gave up 42 to Clemson (a loss), 41 to NC State (a win), 62 to North Carolina (a loss), and 37 to Oklahoma State (a loss).

As DC at Mizzou in 2022 he gave up 40 to Kansas State (a loss) and 66 to Tennessee (a loss)

This year as DC at Mizzou he gave up 42 to LSU (a loss) and 30 to Florida (a win).

I just don’t understand how THAT resume gets a guy to be the highest paid assistant in the history of college football to date. In four seasons as a DC he has gave up more than 60 points twice and more than 40 points seven times. He may be great. He may end up being the greatest. But just based on resume, I can not understand the celebration going on right now.

Go back and read my posts. I’ve not been celebrating at all. I think it’s a good hire, but it’s not like I’ve been saying he’s a slam dunk hire or that he’s the next great DC in the making. I’m optimistic, sure, but I’m not letting my expectations run wild — that only sets one up for major disappointment. I’m too old to do that to myself.

That may be true, it has been hard to keep track of the last twelve hours. It just seems like every LSU fan is already raising the trophy. This morning was just ridiculous. If anyone so much as suggests that Blake Baker may not be the greatest defensive coach in history the usual suspects come out in waves. They sure have today.

There was more to it than play calling. It's been widely rumored that House is a complete a-hole. None of the players, coaches or analysts could stand him. Our star DL wouldn't even look him in the eye when he tried to shake his hand after the bowl game. Our players were celebrating on Twitter when he was fired. That's unusual. Players usually support their coach even when they have a down season. Something fell apart in the locker room. Whether it was one thing or a series of things we'll probably never know, but House had to go.
