we have a nice little history with them in basketball during the Norm Stewart-Nolan Richardson years

Is that what you call a 120-68 Hogs win? History was made, you're right about that...lol

Another historical fun fact since we are going in the WAY back time machine...

We must not forget the Cotton Bowl rushing record:

Large margin, but I'd feel a lot worse about it if we hadn't gone on from that game to go 14-0 in the Big Eight, 28-4 overall, ranked #3 in the final polls and a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament....so we made out OK. In fact, one of our best players on that team was a junior college walkon who was sitting out first semester waiting for transcripts and looking for a team, and he saw that beatdown you mention and thought "hey, that Mizzou team looks like it could use some help" and actually chose us and became one of our top scorers. So thanks for that.

And I'd feel a lot worse if just two short years prior in 1992, Mizzou hadn't won its final game in Barn Hill Arena, knocking off your ballyhooed Mayberry/Miller/Day team in their senior season.

And I'd feel a lot worse if our coach in the game you mention, Norm Stewart, hadn't forged an all-time winning record in Barn Hill Arena over several years.

And I'd feel a lot worse if the game you mention wasn't the only thing allowing Arkansas to barely cling to a 19-18 all-time lead in what is otherwise a dead heat, hotly contested series.

And to give credit where its due, I'd feel a lot worse if that team that administered that beating to us weren't Nolan Richardson's lone national championship team. If you're going to suffer your worst defeat, at least do it to a national champ. In some ways that almost makes sense.

So no. That game bothered me for one night, but then we went on a magic carpet ride of a season thereafter and I never really felt bad about it since.

Loss in Elite 8 is a "magic carpet ride" for Missouri? Damn the bar is set pretty fricking low, isn't it?

Didn't Georgia get tossed around by Boise last year? They aren't above Mizzou. They are terrible.

Reads like Missouri's version of Pondwater Jack.

We need this Mizzou guy, Pondwater and Tammy from F-Baum. Of course, Tammy would only be able to get online when the county lie-berry is open.

Well, seeing as your team has been completely absent from the NCAA tournament for four straight years and counting, I'm not sure there are enough magic carpets in the whole Arabian Desert to even lift your asses back up to that "low bar."

And to answer your question, yes, I think you'd see an Arkansas team that was unranked preseason and picked middle of SEC pack and got torched 120-68 early in the year but then proceeded to go 16-0 in the SEC and finish as a top five ranked, Elite Eight team as a "magic carpet ride" for that team under the circumstances.

Hell, Kentucky has a vastly, vastly superior hoops tradition to Arky in every single way - and THEY still term their 1992 team that had minimal expectations but finished as an Elite Eight team as "The Unforgettables."

Better step your game up. This is getting too easy here now.

Oh how I would enjoy that. I have a void that 11/5 and 1/9 left me with. I'm hungry.

you're forgetting a major part of why they call them that team was special.

Mizzou didn't have those problems when they managed their run to mediocrity.

Goddamn, your smack is even worse than I thought - and I thought it was pretty bad.

Prior to the game you mention above, Arkansas had actually lost five consecutive games to Mizzou in Fayetteville. Five. fricking. Straight. On your home floor. And seven of your last nine. 7 losses in 9 home games vs Mizzou.

Jesus. If anything I'd say the margin in that 120-68 game still wasn't quite enough to undo that many years of flubbing on your own court against us, eh?
