No we don't. We don't "need" a playoff at all. The money is going to ruin college football to an even greater degree than it has already.

Because there only 8 teams. How else would you do it. You wouldn't get a very good draw at neutral sites

Why do some of you not get that not all the conferences are equal? In 2012, due to OSU and PSU's sanctions, an 7-5 Wisconsin team won the conference. A couple years back before that, a 6-6 UCLA team played for the PAC-12 championship. If winning a P5 conference guarantees a spot in the playoffs, then there will be some years where a 3-4 loss team will make it.

You also got to consider what it does to the players. Clemson's Ben Boulware after the NCG mentioned how he couldn't play another game because of how worn out he was. 16 games is too much for CFB. Plus this guys are students too (most of them aren't making it in the NFL).

Actually I thought the BCS worked.
Please no more than 4.
College football is the greatest sport on the planet.
I'm amazed at the # of "fans" that want to ruin it!

bullshite. Anytime the top players skip events, ratings suffer. This is not debatable. As many top players start "fournetting" their last bowl game, ratings will ceratainly suffer. This will propel the ESPNs to begin pushing for more "relevant" games, thus playoff expansion.

When we start getting competitive games between the top 4, then we can start talking about the top 8. Until then, what is the point?

I hate any of it, but if it was going to be done, this is the way it should have been from the beginning. #6 plays at #3 and #5 plays at #4. Then you're down to four and what we have now.

The BCS was much better, especially the version that was computer weighted; all it needed was a conference champion requirement. The CFP committee with all these political know nothings is a joke. So much bias and ignorance. The semi final games have sucked too. I don't care for the new system at all.

So you would be fine if it was the SEC champ who was #5 & was the "away" team?

I only opened this thread so I could downvote you.

Didn't even read past the title.

But you're giving 1 & 2 a bye. Is that fair?

Except Leonard Fournette was actually injured.
A little fact that you seem to be missing.

If the play off expands, then the regular season needs to be reduced to 10 games.

16 team play-off. Ten Conference Champions (P5-G5). 6 at large berths.

Use the existing bowl games in playoff.

1st RD- Sun, Liberty, Music City, Belk, Outback, San Diego, Las Vegas, Texas etc.

2nd RD-3rd-Championship- could rotate the Existing 7 biggest bowls-Rose,Sugar,Fiesta,Orange, Peach,Cotton and maybe Gator Bowl.

That uses 15 of your existing bowls. They can leave 10 of the minor ones to still have 20 other deserving teams to make a bowl as a consolation.

It can be done. Share the $$$ equally around w/playoff participants getting more for expenses.
