The rose bowl between USC and Penn State last year proved we need to expand the playoffs and I have an idea.

The 1-4 spots are reserved for conference champions and the rest are at large. After the conference championships the board will make the playoff bracket and 5-8 will play in the wild card games. The winners of the wild card games will then play #3 and #4, after that the winners will play in the semifinals and after that the championship. I don't think any conference champion shouldn't have a playoff spot like PSU last year but teams like OSU and USC are deserving also, putting them in the wild card. What do y'all think? Y'all like an 8 team playoff?

No we don't. A USC team that got spanked 52-6 by a playoff team doesn't deserve a bid. 4 is plenty.

This has been discussed a thousand times.

2 out of 3 times, the championship game in the CFBP has been a FANTASTIC game. Despite both games being between Clemson and Alabama, needless to say, both lower seed playoff teams in those 2 AL vs. CU got SPANKED. I mean ANNIHILATED.

Clemson - With Oklahoma and OSU, Clemson out scored them 67-17! That's a 50 point margin! Alabama's is just as bad or worse. Alabama out scored Washington and MSU a combined 62-7! It may be a bit different with 8 teams, but at that point it would just be a money grab and fan service.

At least with Alabama in the mix, those playoff games would be pretty boring assuming based on recent history, that half of them would be blowouts.

I agree that a 6 or 8 game playoff would be awesome, but THIS:

Sure, let's allow in undeserving teams and destroy the greatest thing about college football: The Regular Season Matters.

Who watches college basketball until March? Very few do, because the games don't really matter. Everybody watches in March, because the games do matter.

4 Teams is more than enough.

And #9 and #10 will complain, and people will start saying we a 10 team playoff. On and on and on. So no we don't need to open it up.

you obviously haven't noticed the travel restraints for all the extra games. Oh and then theres the potential of players getting hurt months prior to the draft. We can ask so much out of theses kids. I don't believe in paying them, but at some point we are going to push them to far.

Let it rest. There are plenty of games.

Yeah, let's ruin the one sport that the regular season means something. Amazing how everyone wants to turn college football into the antiseptic NFL.

Isn't piped in stadium music bad enough?

No reservations for conference champs! The conferences are not equal.

Seeding the top 8 teams would be best. 16 would be even better. Let's make major college football like every other division. Bowl games are ridiculous.

Why don't we just make the entire season a playoff starting with Game 1. The champion will be deserving and no one could say shite.

What is going to lead to an 8 team playoff, is not the Penn States, etc. it will be the result of the Leonard Fournettes.
When all the good players start skipping "meaningless" bowl games, college football won't have anything else to do but to include more teams in the playoffs.

Very interesting point... you may be right if it starts a trend.

I like 8 but no more. Power 5 champs the week after CCGs. and 3 at large. Played at Top 4 P5 seeds homes. then re seed the semifinals as they currently are.

I know army-navy is an issue, but most of the time it won't interfere.

Also I know the whole every game matters argument, and I really think that's not true.
I don't know every game matters right now.

I'm not a PSU fan, but tOSU situation was kinda ridiculous to me. I honestly believe if the exact roll s were reversed, tOSU would have gotten in with 2 losses as a CC and h2h win

So you're giving 1 & 2 a 2 game bye (even though 1-4 are conf. champs)?

Round 1
5 vrs. 6 & 7 vrs.8

Round 2
5/6 winner vrs. 3
7/8 winner vrs. 4

Round 3
5/6/3 winner vrs. 1
7/8/4 winner vrs. 2

Round 4
title game

Why does top 4 of the 5 conf. champs get H advantage? Shouldn't ALL 5?

This. Four is already too many. So far the extra games have been 90 percent putrid. As a CFB fan, I'd have rather watched them in a regular bowl game against a more evenly matched opponent.

As a fan and viewer, the BCS was a far more enjoyable setup, imo. Strength of schedule and the computer being unafraid to make selections/rank teams based on a variety of factors made bowl games in general more fun. And because of the way bowl games now work that goes far beyond simply the title game. Bowl season has been messed up since the CFP started. When bowls selected teams on their own they were competing with one another to put together a great game and sometimes that meant pairing teams with different or more uneven records. On paper it might make sense to pair #2 in conference X with #2 in conference Y but that doesn't take into account a lot of things.
