That was 9 years ago. I think we need to stop bringing up 2007 when talking about app state.
They were also in FCS back then. Completely different team and still not one that Tennessee should have been close to last night.

Running game was not impressive.
Hurd was totally ineffective. It looks like he took a step back this year. And why didn't they give it to kamara more?

Now you're just patronizing them.

How could Butch not have this team fired up to play the first game of the season? It's one thing to have your team look disinterested vs a team like App St in the middle of your schedule but it's quite another to have your team not give a shite in week one.

Oh I agree, no reason whatsoever it should be that close.
My thing was just the whole "App state is a good team, they beat michigan.." thinking is played out. Way played out.

App State had some legit D linemen
I saw one guy abuse the LG on multiple occasions. Even abused some double teams. It was the white guy with the mullet. That dude is gonna be in the league some day.
You always run the risk of games like this against so-called cupcakes right out of the chute. You are going to get some 1's with legit talent. It's the depth that kills the Sunbelt teams of the world. After their 3 or 4 weeks of beatings at the hands of the big dogs, they become different teams.

You don't know but app state is in the sunbelt now

They got beat in the trenches on offense and defense. Hurd looked mediocre, their play calling was questionable (how about giving it to Kamara more) and their overall coaching is lagging.
And Tennessee's MVP was the Appy kicker

Tennessee's defense wasn't the problem. Their OL was shite last night. That's why that gane was so close.
This.
The smaller DL from App State was just too fast for the big UT OL. They were jumping the gaps before the OL got out of their stance.
Might be a blueprint for other teams against UT.

Tennessee has MUCH better athletes...
Stop it, slime . App St DLINE beat UT in the trenches, where it matters, all night long.
This is less about talent, and more about a freshman kicker

Even if the offense is out of sync, they should've been able to push App ST's DL around and just run the ball down their throats.
That's what I hate about a zone blocking scheme. UT's offense isn't set up to blow people off the ball...it is made to beat them to a spot and seal them off. Appy State's DL was much too fast for UT. I'm not a fan, and never have been a fan of finesse football.

Tennessee ran about 3 offensive plays. That was the most vanilla approach I've ever seen.
The les miles approach. Makes every game close, regardless of the level of competition

Next week is the true test on what kind of team they have. Contender or pretender.. All good teams have a bad game. Ut fans better hope that was a fluke last night
