....I think people should realize what type of team they actually played. App State is a very serious football program in their division. The year they beat Michigan they went on the win the National Championship in their division for the third year in a row.

I also remember a lot of Division one teams struggling with the triple option from a defensive standpoint. That is not an offense the we see often and it can be hard to adjust to for only one game.

They got the W and next we will be more of a true indicator of what type of football team they have.

App State is a good team, but that game should NOT have gone to overtime... Tennessee has MUCH better athletes and if their coaching was half-way descent they would have won by AT LEAST 2 touchdowns...

Their OL got absolutely abused all game long. Even if the offense is out of sync, they should've been able to push App ST's DL around and just run the ball down their throats.

It is worth mentioning however that Michigan went 8-4 that year in the regular season after starting the year with a preseason ranking of #5. That loss was the start of the destruction of Michigan football that we see today and the coaching carousal that followed.

I guess time will tell.

But at the same time, if Tennessee is truly the #9 team and a playoff contender, it shouldn't take an overtime fumble for them to win.

They got beat in the trenches on offense and defense. Hurd looked mediocre, their play calling was questionable (how about giving it to Kamara more) and their overall coaching is lagging.

They ain't shite and yes; Florida is the tougher permanent cross-division opponent.

Tennessee ran about 3 offensive plays. That was the most vanilla approach I've ever seen. Absolutely trash coaching. They have talent to win. It's obviously not developed and the approach to offense is horrific.

Well, at least Vols already went through the destruction and coaching carousel part.

Tennessee's defense wasn't the problem. Their OL was shite last night. That's why that gane was so close.

I admit that was the best team I've seen Tennessee beat in a long time.

Part of the enjoyment of the Michigan loss and the UT near loss lies in the perception that Michigan and UT are 2 of the most overrated programs in CFB, historically.

They were probably thinking they would be successful with a limited playbook against an "inferior" opponent. App. State had other ideas. Tennessee's O line is their biggest weakness and App State had some legit D linemen. Tenn is very lucky to be 1-0. The game at Bristol Motor Speedway just got that much more interesting.

Umm..they looked horrible. Dobbs looked horrible. If he keeps floating the ball like that SEC DBs are going to have their way. Running game was not impressive.

Actually i am pretty sure they run the Quadruple option but were just trying to keep things vanilla against TN

That was 9 years ago. I think we need to stop bringing up 2007 when talking about app state.

Everything you mentioned could have excused a slow first half with a miscue here and there, leading to Tennessee pulling away in the second half.

Instead you got four quarters of mistakes, terrible coaching, and overrated talent, glaring deficiencies, and eventual blind luck to survive. UT has major problems at OL, QB, and on run D. They simply aren't the team they were supposed to be with all that talent going into Butch's fourth year.
