I heard back in the day that Petty had been known to get up and play those instruments inside that fenced area in Skeeters.

Which brings me to a question. Are Skeeters and Cassady's still in Gainesville? Not the best food ever, but Skeeters is hands down the best place in the world to land if you are drunk past midnight.

And I loved Cassady's pizza. If it isn't authentic Chicago style, well I couldn't handle the truth.

He was definitely a Gator fan. And for years, it has been common knowledge to those who knew anything about his background.

Hm, interesting comment

But I live in Nashville and have for most of my life, which I'd take over living in Houston any day of the week. JMO

Skeeters moved their location about 25 years ago and then went out of business about a year after that.

They had the Big Biscuit. That was indeed the best place to go for food after the bars closed.

He was known to hump some tree on campus or some dumb shite like that.

He reportedly drove his mom's Impala into Lake Alice when he was supposed to be at a school dance.

Tom Petty was freaking awesome.

All time great rock and roll musician but much more than that.

Petty was one of the most genuinely good guys to ever get that famous and not lose their humility and human touch in the least.

Really, a true American treasure and his death is a huge loss to everyone in the music business, above all the "little guys" who Petty, no matter how famous, was legendary in his efforts to help out as much as he possibly could.

Never knew if he was much of a die hard football fan but he certainly kept his ties to the Gainesville area and said he was a Gator fan anytime asked. Not that that really even matters much in the big picture.

Still like the Tiger fan that was flexing to the guy losing his stuff about the band.

Apparently, someone didn't like Petty as his house was set on fire while he and his family were home.

I'm not sure if they ever caught the perpetrator.

Yeah, they never caught the arsonist. Likely some random nut case although the conspiracy theorists always pointed out that Petty did have some enemies in very high places due to his life long war against major music labels.

Yes. Said at Super Bowl the Gators we’re only football team he pulled for.

I heard an interview with him awhile back in which the interviewer started asking him questions about CFB. He was he was a fan of UF but didn't appear to have much knowledge of CFB at all. Don't think he was a big fan.

Lsu fans seen intent on proving themselves the least intelligent fan base in college football.

What is disgusting is continued behavior of LSU fans trying to justify the ugly actions by their freaking band. I guess they think denigrating the Petty tribute would somehow excuse that Stanford-band type disruption staged in the Florida stadium

So Florida fans are upset because the LSU band was playing while they were trying to honor a guy who mowed the grass two times at the student center?

Was Petty a Toro trimmer or a Snapper snipper?

Something is fishy as frick with this statement. I was at a Tom Petty and Heartbreaker concert many years ago at the Summit. I remember him saying that Houston was his favorite city in the world. Never mentioned Gainesville once.

A friend of mine saw him play in Pittsburgh. He said Pittsburgh was also his favorite city in the world. Never mentioned Gainesville.

Something not adding up. You Gatahs are grabbing onto someone who really had nothing to do with you. Now if John Deere or Weedeater wanted to latch onto him... they got me and I couldn't argue.

Wow Sherlock. Wonder what he would say at a show in Gainesville

I agree. The continued derogatory words of LSU fans on this make this one of the most disappointing topics on TRant ever.
Grow up and show some respect for a national treasure who passed away last week far too young.

Not sure why people are giving uf people some much grief over this. They claim petty as one their own. Not all have this idea that only alums, and their relatives are allowed to be fans. For goodness sakes aggies claim Bush Sr. as if he has any real connection to the university.

UT has the likes of Bill Dance though which he aint scared to show his blood runneth orange. Ha.

This Petty/uf trolling has gone past it's appeal at this point. I'm starting to wish I wasnt rooting for lsu to win that game. Thanks lsu fans. Geez.
