Only four active coaches have won a national title.

Only 7 have even played for one.

That's pretty pathetic.

Miles was a great recruiter, a "Players Coach", entertaining personality, and absolute trash game coach. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.

ETA: And he would have won MORE national titles, if he had been a better Game coach. The talent and tools at LSU were unquestionable.

Les did a better job beating LSU when Ole Miss was playing them than Ole Miss did. Fact.

Les was very good in his his heyday. Anyone denying that is either trolling or dumb.

The real question is if, in his mid 60's, he could reinvent himself and have a second act to his career? It's definitely possible, it could be that getting fired at LSU was what it took to open his eyes to modernizing his approach... if he had hired a Matt Canada last offseason and let them do their thing I think Les would almost certainly still be the coach at LSU today.

However, it's more likely that once in a new job he would revert back to what he knows, bad habits and outdated thinking are a part of that for 2017 Les. I don't think it would work out.

Eh sometimes.

Ole Miss will always play LSU tough, y'all care about the game more than we do. I'm not trying to troll, that's just a fact. Every LSU coach good or bad as has struggled against Ole Miss more than they should have because of it.

Well, all of them except Ed

Saban, Dabo, Urban, Jimbo are the 4 who have won.

Gus and Brian Kelly are 2 of the other 3 who have played. Can't think of the 7th.

It's also exactly why, in a few years, LSU fans are going to be super pissed that they fired Miles. Orgeron has proven exactly the OPPOSITE of being able to maintain a winning program.

I don't like the Coach O hire either, but it was time for Miles to go.

Jesus. Ten wins a season over a decade in the toughest conference in the country and dumb asses are still starting these threads.

FYI - just so you know- Saban lost four games in his last year at LSU and he lost less than three games at LSU - once.

That's absolutely incredible. Kind of makes you wonder what the rest of the schools are playing for. I don't mean that harshly, it's just hard math. There are 130 head coaches in the FBS and only four of them have won national titles.

He was a good motivator, recruiter, and program manager. It just got stale after 2011. His message didn't carry the same weight as it did before and the program lost its edge under him.

OBJ, Landry, Hill, and Mett bailed him out in 2013, a great defense bailed him out towards the end of 2014, and LF7 bailed him out in 2015. There hasn't been a complete team in BR since 2011 and it's largely because of Miles. Losing the opener against Wisconsin last year truly showed just how far the game had passed him by. He refused to adapt (offense) and refused to do what was best for the program (not firing Cameron).

Sumlin would probably say Les is a great coach. Aggies would lucky if he succeeds Sumlin.

Les is one of the 5 best coaches or his generation.

Etling was injured and out for that game. If Etling plays that game LSU wins. There was about 35 seconds left when Etling threw the winning TD pass against Auburn. Clock operators cheated just like Florida did in 2015 vs Tennessee.

Les was 3-1 when he was fired and had to play the backup in the one game he lost.
