the big recruiting change to Ole Miss or was it the gift of starting and words that glittered to a young man in the last ditch effort by Ole Miss.
LINK have been four high school commitments for Ole Miss since Jan. 8, starting with highly sought wide receiver Tobias Singleton of Madison Central. But Singleton's commitment was a relative ripple in the pool compared to Tuesday's cannonball.
Philadelphia linebacker C.J. Johnson, who had been committed to Mississippi State for almost a year, announced Tuesday that he would sign with the Rebels next week. It was probably the biggest recruiting news involving a Mississippi high school player since DeAndre Brown chose Southern Miss over several SEC schools a few years back.
Who knew the departure of Mississippi State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz to Texas could cripple the Bulldogs' recruiting efforts so much?
Johnson is the top prospect in the state, and was by far the best player on the field at last month's Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic. He'd likely be an immediate contributor at any school he chose.
It's why he decided to sign with Ole Miss that's a bit of a puzzler. He claimed in various published reports that he had formed a bond with Rebels defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix, who promised to turn him into the next Patrick Willis, the former Ole Miss star now an NFL star with the San Francisco 49ers.
Such statements underscore the truth in recruiting: top-level players don't choose their schools based on that team's tradition or recent level of success. Players today choose schools for different reasons, and a relationship with a head coach, position coach or the assistant coach who recruited them is a major one.
And for whatever reason, Ole Miss has done a better job of selling that this offseason than MSU.....

Just like Auburn. When will the truth come out? Why did these players really change their minds? If Nutt was that good, this would not have been the 1st year Ole Miss beat State so bad.

We have already heard a lot of bragging from Ole Miss and I don't blame them. But, will we ever know the truth?

It hasn't been. We did pretty well against them last year as well....

I think its a combination of a lot of things. Diaz and Hudspeth leaving for other jobs. The fact that the FBI was around our program investigating Cam gate scared off some recruits, and also the fact that some of these guys can get immediate PT at Ole Miss this fall where they would have to redshirt at State.

You can't honestly say that MSU would have RS'ed CJ Johnson.

No he would have played as a True Freshman b/c it was a position we needed help at. I dont know if he would have started though.

The kid had 19 tackles in the MS-AL all star game.

Recruiting isn't science, but 5 star kids are rarely ever flops.

IMO both Nick and Tobias would have played for State in the fall. If Chad Bumphis can come in and catch slip screens and run a slant or square-in every now and then, they sure as hell would have.

Say what you want State fans about your incredible WR depth but we all know those 2 are different caliber players than Chris Smith and fricking Leon Berry.

This. Bumphis got a ton of yards doing screens and reverses. I've also noticed that he doesn't like to take a hit either. Can't tell you how many times I've seen him step out of bounds a yard short of the first down. Take you a tackle and get that 1st.

Arceto Clark, Michael Carr, and Ricco Sanders all caught TDs in the Gator Bowl. We also have Brandon Heavens, as well as the RS FR guys (Jameon Lewis, Robert Johnson, and Malcolm Johnson)

I also think Morrow will get PT this fall b/c he is the tall WR we dont have that can stretch the field.

Yea I caught a couple tds on Michigan's D also. South Panola would've dropped 30+ on that goose-down defense.

What were we supposed to do????

We could have scored another TD but Dan ran the ball up the middle with backups the last 8 offensive plays of the game.

You have to admit Carr is talented, he is going to put up good numbers this year.

Ole Miss was way more in need of help at WR than State. Yall filled your needs.

What WRs get redshirted at OM? Moncrief, Worthy , and Moore?

No no i gotcha I am just saying you can't put too much stock into a bowl game like that, as far as predicting a players impact goes. Yall had a month to prepare to shread that weak D and you did just that. My point is that you can't just pencil a guy in bc he caught a TD in a bowl game.

He is absolutley talented. Wa shall see about the numbers. Let's see how that JUCO DT does @ LT for yall first before we start discussing wr stats.

True true.

I think Moncrief makes an impact. Based upon what I have seen, my opinion is that he has the size, speed, and athleticism to contribute as a freshman. Will he? Who knows. But he won't have too many people in front of him, as you alluded to earlier.

I think there is no way TJ Worthy doesn't get redshirted and we shall see on Moore.
