casey clausen was 14-1 on the road as a starter. this thread continues to display my belief that he is the most under-appreciated player in Tennessee history

If you'll do yourself a favor and actually read the thread, I gave Casey clausen his due earlier and acknowledged his attitude as a road warrior. But looking at the stats, ainge is the best qb we've had since manning. Screw you if you don't think I know my own teams history, especially at QB.

I don't think he's insinuating that you don't know your QB history.

lsufb19 is a good poster and believe it or not, fair when it comes to UT(His AM I believe?) Football.

1. I went to Tennessee
2. I was a student to see both Clausen and Ainge in person
3. Stats don't tell the whole story
4. Ainge was garbage until his junior season
5. Clausen has a better career passer rating, more TDS, fewer INTs, more yards, better completion %, basically everything. And for their careers, Clausen only had 40 more total passing attempts. Clausen was also a better winner than Ainge could ever dream of being. You're entitled to your opinion but I just disagree with that opinion.

That's all true. And i agree stats don't tell the whole story. And i am no way attempting to belittle what clausen did here. He and Ainge were practically on the same level in terms of big wins and talent. Ainge probably didn't have the numbers of Clausen cause his injuries early in his career and the fact that he had to split time with schaeffer for a while. But yeah, i'll agree to a push on this one. Clasuen and Ainge are 2nd and 3rd behind Manning in total yards at UT, and They both have a few UT records that still stand. Hard to separate

Honest Question: Why'd you go to UT?/Why are you still an LSU fan?

Grew up an LSU fan, whole mom's side of the family went to LSU and is from the BR/Nola area, grandparents have had season tickets to football since the 50s and everything else since the 80s. My sister actually goes there now. I, on the other hand, screwed around in high school and my family wasn't going to pay out of state tuition for me to screw around again. I grew up in Memphis, so UT was the best in-state option. The original plan was to go to UT for a year and transfer, but after joining a fraternity, making friends, having a gf, etc, I chose to stay. I don't regret anything as I thoroughly enjoyed my college experience.

LSU is still my team for sports because it's just impossible for me to truly root for TN first in my heart. I root for UT every other game they play and actually end up going to more games every year in Knoxville now because that's the only time i get to see a lot of my college friends. I'll be at the Florida and Alabama games for sure this season.

Not even going to lie, I had never stepped foot in Knoxville until orientation before my freshman year. I didn't make the choice to go there until late May. Thought about going to SE Louisiana for a minute because they offered me a scholarship based on my ACT/SAT scores. Glad I didn't go down that road

Cool story, sounds like the orange mixed with the purple a little bit in your blood.

Hope we are 2-0 in the games you are going to this year!

Clay turned on UT because he hated Derek Dooley and because him being Paul Finebaum Jr furthered his career in sports media, nothing more, nothing less. And fwiw, Clay Travis is actually a good writer and an intelligent human being. His opinions regarding anything sports related should be taken with a grain of salt because his job is to generate hits for his website and expand his audience on his radio show, as well as increase sales on books he has published. He has excelled with all of that. He's gone from a journalist for deadspin before deadspin was as big as it is to being on fox sports television. He didn't do that by being a homer local radio show host for UT. In toay's media, you don't make big money in sports reporting unless you try to stir the pot.
