Serrano's west coast style of play hasn't translated at all in the SEC. His saving grace is that the viable options to replacing him are pretty limited.

Kind of surprised how bad he has done at Tennessee. This might be his last season if he cant get them in the tournament.

Not even the least bit surprised. Fullerton fans were ecstatic for him to leave.

He is signing kids that have no chance of coming to college and then has no backup plan.

sounds like Smoke Laval, but yeah I've noticed that as well

In his defense, he hasn't really had the arms that he needed to play that style.

He's had 4 years to recruit them. If he hasn't found them in year 5, that's all on him

That's pretty badass. He's a hell of an athlete.

I thought he hired a new hitting coach who is not a small ball guy.

I hadnt heard that. My hypocritical self accuses Knox of apathy, but I don't really keep up with it either. I really hope he gets it turned around, but that is unlikely in this league.

I know that he brought back Larry Simcox.

I agree, he seems like a great guy and I don't think his future is in football. He will be far more successful in other endeavors. Let the guy enjoy competing while in college and I wouldn't be surprised if he is really good.

I completely agree. I was more addressing the idea that his west coast style of ball has failed in the SEC or can't succeed in the SEC. The point was, you have to have horses on the mound and in the pen to do that. I don't think, as a system, it is incapable of working in this conference. I just don't think Serrano has the recruiting acumen and UT has the tradition to pull it off.

I thought he'd sign great players and Tennessee would be a regular Top 25 team. It is baffling that they are this bad.

We all thought that. Like volfan said, he's trying to sign ringers who have no shot at coming to college.

Oh well, at least we still have the Lady Vols.

I remember going to the Christmas UT Baseball camps in like 2000 and Simcox was great with infielders.

Smart move. He's not going to make it as a NFL QB. Why not prepare for a potential career in MLB?

We all didnt. You must not remember how pumped Fullerton fans were to be rid of him and how they warned UT fans about Serrano.

He's a talented football player but like Tebow (obviously Dobbs isn't good as Tebow, before people freak out) his talents don't really translate to the NFL. He's not accurate enough to play QB, and he's not versatile enough to play another position.

Interesting. How do UT fans feel about this? Would be concerning given the FB team hopes are essentially on his shoulders. Awful late in the process to decide to pick baseball back up. Hope it works out for the young man. Cannot imagine the UT melt if he were to get any sort of nagging/lingering issue from baseball that impacts the FB season.

No, I wasn't cruising Fullerton message boards to see how they felt about losing their baseball coach.

Serrano is not a terrible coach, his style just hasn't worked here. Small ball can certainly work with the right players.
