imo, no one should be arrested for underage drinking. however it sounds like they should have just put this kid in the holding cell overnight just to protect him from himself. and made him clean up his vomit in the AM and let him go.

These aren't Barney Fife days. I would be shocked if police can take you without charging you with something.

KPD does not cut athletes any slack (not that they should in this case), if anything, they see an athlete and go out of their way to bust him.
