He was probably referring to a defense including the following players (starters in bold):

LB - Jalen Reeves-Maybin (lost for season since Ohio game)
DT - Danny O'Brien (dismissed from team on Tuesday)
LB - Quartee Sapp (out since Ohio)
LB - Cortez McDowell (out since Georgia)
LB - Darrin Kirkland (out since Virginia Tech)
DB - Cam Sutton (out since Ohio)
DT - Alexis Johnson (injured in practice)
DT - Kahlil McKenzie - (out since 1st quarter Bama)
DT - Kendell Vickers - (out since 2nd quarter Bama)
DB - Micah Abernathy (out since 3rd quarter Bama)

Are Tennessee fans blaming this all on bad luck? Or are some coaches to blame?

I think S&C definitely has something to do with it.

What about how practices are handled or the off season? Some coaches get criticized for having too much contact and some for not having enough.

Starting to wonder if there's a problem with our S&C. Sutton and Kirkland were ankle injuries, McDowell was a concussion, and JRM has had shoulder problems before, so I'll throw those out.

Abernathy has a hairline fracture, Sapp tore his ACL, Weisman has a concussion, Robertson was rolled up on from behind, Kendrick was rolled up on from behind, KMac tore his pec, so it's hard to get a good read on what exactly is the problem.

But when you lose 4/5 starting O lineman, 4 LBs, 2 CBs, and have a slew of other players who are playing hurt, it's hard to just write it off as being unlucky.

We had a problem with our old S&C, where we seemed to experience an ungodly amount of injuries in the Spring and Summer. We've basically gone from one extreme to the other.

It is the first season with a new S&C Coach. We went very light on contact in Fall Camp...but we had a ton of players recovering from surgery at the end of last season.

That I don't know. I do know they run an extremely fast paced practice and several beat writers have commented that practices are absolutely brutal. Could be over working them.

Just curious...how much more game experience have Jonah Williams, Lester Cotton, Jalen Hurts, Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, and Joshua Jacobs had than these Vols' replacements? I would guess not much.

It seems like the idea was the opposite for us and the coaching staff received some criticism for our slow start in week 1. I think it is too hard to judge without being in all the practices.

Tennessee is moving backup defensive ends to play defensive tackle...so, while they may have more game experience...playing a different position is still a bit of a disadvantage.

BTW...I would probably take the freshmen you listed over Marcus Tatum who had not taken a single snap all season so he could be redshirted...he had to come in to replace Chance Hall when he was hurt during Saturday's game.

Face it...starters are starters for a reason. Would you rather see Jonah Williams in for Bama this Saturday, or Jacob Probasco?

Hey, I'm not saying it was an even swap. But let's face it...these guys weren't playing 2012 Alabama with veterans all over the lineup.

If Jonah Williams went down I'm guessing we'd see Korren Kirven, Matt Womack or Brandon Kennedy and not a walk-on from New Jersey.

It wouldn't be fun, but we'd adjust the gameplan and figure it out. Our 2nd string RG (playing in place of the injured Alphonse Taylor), Lester Cotton, won his matchups against Tuttle and Kongbo for most of the day.

We started a true freshman and two sophomores on the OL on Saturday, along with a true freshman QB, a quad of SO/SO/FR/FR at running back.

Ok...here is what UT was missing on the offensive line during the game (starters in Bold).

LG - Jashon Robertson (Out since aTm)
C - Dylan Wiseman (out since aTm)
LT - Brett Kendrick (ankle fist half bama)
RT - Chance Hall (ankle first half Bama)

Alabama has more depth at offensive lines and defensive lines than UT...so granted, there wouldn't be as much of a drop off for you as there was for us. But when you lose your center the week before, and have to replace him with the backup who still hasn't fully recovered from an ankle injury...you are in trouble. Some teams can recover from injuries like this. UT still doesn't have the depth to do so.

Obviously Tennessee has had terrible injury luck and is really battered. I just don't buy that having that first group in would have done a whole heckuva lot to change things, other than maybe give Dobbs just a bit more time to throw.

Who knows, maybe we'll find out in 2 months.

UT oline on Saturday

FR-FR-JR-SO-FR Only 3 of them have played snaps this year, Richmond hadn't played since VT. Boulware played in the 2nd half against A&M, Thomas had been on the bench since VT (Came in after Weisman got injured at A&M). Sanders (RG) hasn't played a snap since 2014 (for a reason). Tatum (RT) first game, had to burn his redshirt because we had nobody left to replace Hall when Kendrick went down.

Going up against the best front 7 in football, we had no chance in hell. And when you keep going 3 and out, you keep putting a defense that has been absolutely gutted by injuries at every level on the field against an extremely athletic offense. They had no backups left to put on the field to spell the defense.

We were doomed. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED.

Now, Triple Daves (George), you're smarter than the average Bama fan, can you please be your normal objective self here?
