Odd question for a Bammer but honestly IDGAF. Back then even the AP didn't mean what it does today and a lot of different groups were considered legit. We don't claim that many (tons left on the table that we could claim but don'tand in a few we really did get fricked) but it means squat to me.

Are you as equally shocked when I spread my hate of other teams in other threads?

Tennessee can probably make a viable claim to 4 of those - 1938, 1950, 1951, and 1998. 1940 and 1967 are from very obscure selectors (Dunkel and Litkenhous, respectively). They could probably make better claims on different years in the 30s to make up for those two silly ones, though.

Bama should replace 1941 with 1945, 1964 with 1966, and 1973 with 1977. It all comes out in a wash, but it's a shame the most viable options aren't always chosen.

All but 41, even though Alabama's place in the AP poll that year is about as bad as Alabama claiming the national championship.

Legit National Championships should follow a simple pattern on if they are legit, based on the year of the championship.

Pre-1936: AP poll didn't exist, so math polls are the big ones to go too. Many schools will cross claim these.

After 1936, Math polls should be removed(that removes 41 for Alabama) and only AP(and eventually coaches polls) should count from 1936-1997.

Now, as far as before or after the bowl game - bowl games were exhibition games back then, so whatever the poll awards is what matters.

And then obviously you have BCS era only counting and now playoffs only counting.

Any that don't meet those standards are bullshite claims IMO. Claiming AP polls during the BCS era is as bad as claiming math rankings during the poll era, etc(cough USC cough).

*exceptions* When the AP poll first came out in 1936, it was pretty biased. In some cases where it's obvious they were wrong and every other measure pretty much says it, I'm fine with claims.

So, I'd say legit Tennessee National Championships are as follows:

1938(#2 AP but see exception above).
1951
1998

40 was at least recognized by 2 separate polls (But I can understand why people would dispute it). 1967 is the real head scratcher for me. We had several undefeated seasons in the early 30s, claimed no titles from those years.

Thought they had destroyed the hook used by John Wayne Gacy, but looks you have claimed it. Share it with your other funny white outfitted clan over there in College Station?

You see that ncaa.com list above? It credits Alabama with 14. Doesn't include 1934 (and certainly not 1941, which is more akin to those bogus titles you are claiming). Fine with me. Actually, I would be good counting only AP/UPI (coaches poll) and the recent BCS and playoff titles.
