Chattanooga has done a great job with their downtown area. Even more so since it was voted one of the most polluted cities in the U.S in the 60's or 70's.

Hamilton County is about 100k less than Knox County as far as population goes and close to 250-300k less than the Knoxville metro, but they have done a great job with the city infrastructure. Chatt is also more of an urban city where as Knoxville has more of a suburban feel to it. I'm very happy with the city's current and future plans though.

Good thread. For a former Tennessean that hasn't lived in Knox since I graduated in late 07 it is impressive to see all the updates.

I've only been back for game weekends since and it is so hard to get a feel for how the city has changed during those blurs.

Should be pretty awesome when the Strip is redone as well, no?

Yeah, Chattanooga used to be a shithole downtown, now it's fantastic.

Knoxville without question is coming along too. Love Downtown Grill and Brewary.

There are a couple of gay bars in Knoxville, ironically none on Gay Street.

Once the strip is done, Cumberland Ave should look great. It's going to be about a year before phase 1 is complete and then an additional 2 more to complete phase 2. This project along with adding the Publix, Walmart, and speciality stores to campus should really help with functionality and appearance.

There's not a ton of renderings out there, but here is a little something. Personally, I'm excited about the utilities/power lines being run underground, finally. I think that's been the biggest detractor is how old everything looks above eye level. Outdated telephone poles, cables, shitty signage, etc.

I hate the way the Strip has been allowed to go to hell. It was awesome in the 90s and early 00s. Now it's fricking polluted with WE BUY GOLD/MONEY HERE! That should never have been allowed to happen - ever.

But a lot of that was the city's bright idea to crack down on alcohol. Restaurants made all their $$$ during football season and basketball season and used to be able to open up kegs outside. When the city decided to nix that the restaurants couldn't afford to stay through the dead summers where there was no students or games to keep them in business.

I just hope it doesn't go to corporate with the renovations but I suppose if it has to it's better than what they've allowed to happen.

Going to the Carousel to see a drag show is damn near a rite of passage if you're brave enough to step outside your boundaries and aren't a homophobe.

Hopefully they are able to find a good medium. It's been a long time since I've wanted hit up any bars on campus other than during football season. It wasn't always like that for me though. Luckily it would appear we are headed for better times again. Just have to wait the construction out.

It's worse in Chattanooga. So many bammers, Georgia and auburn fans down here. Chart is the melting pot for SEC fans.

I think it'd be awesome to do a series of these leading up to football season.

I agree with this. Can we get each fanbase to do this for their respective college towns/cities?
