I also think Pinkel will need to go 8-4 to keep his job. Maybe 7-5, but more likely 8-4. I can only hope Josh Henson turns out to be a good OC, and we find a QB coach with SEC recruiting ties.

Im starting to think that Pinkel will be done in two years or so regardless of what happens. Riding Mizzou through the transition and then retiring. I dont know why but Im starting to think this was the plan all along.

I bet the plan was for Pinkel to succeed.
But it is obvious he cannot as he can't change gears fast enough.
Half the staff should have been fired and replaced with guys with Florida ties after that season.
He is going down with his ship.

I still love the man for everything he has done for us, even though the criticism I lob at him. The sad thing is, I want him to go out being known as the guy that got us into the SEC. Not as the guy that came in and couldnt get the job done.

Dude.. way to play to the crowd, but get real with this.
We beat TN this year, they are losing very key guys including their best weapon in Tyler Bray. And we are going to be much better next year, this is a weak prediction.
And 7-5 would not get Pinkel fired.

Shooting for 8-4 year after year, isn't going to cut it. I tend to agree with the "GP is gone no matter what in a couple of years" theory. His ceiling was reached long ago.
He got Mizzou into the SEC, he'll handle the transition, but there will have to be someone that can take it up a notch to replace him.

It might not, but it should. Pinkel needs to go ASAP. Preferably a month ago

You're giving up to soon, after one bad year in a decade I am going to stay optimistic and expect to see them get back to at least a winning record.

My biggest question is what happens at QB? That's a fairly large question mark to have.

No idea, realistically it's probably between Franklin and Mauk. But there will be 4 guys in the competition.
My gut says Frankin will be healthy and given the job for his SR year, but will be on a very short leash. First sign of the nonsense we saw this year, and they start investing in the future.

If 7-5 doesn't save Pinkel's job then I feel bad for the guy. A program like Mizzou shouldn't have unrealistic expectations.
I love Mizzou btw, some of my lady's family lives in Columbia and it is a great town. I always enjoy my time there and I'm even thinking of doing grad work at Mizzou, so I'm not hating.
But Pinkel shouldn't be expected to move mountains in only the second year in a new conference.

Stonehog,
It's not so much expectations, as much as it is his seeming lack of willingness to adapt to the game around him. The SEC is a different animal, he's stubborn to concede that fact.
JMO.

This is the sentiment that I don't understand. This season was not Pinkel's only shortcoming. 2008 was a letdown season with a bad home loss to Okie State which derailed our title hopes. 2009 was dismal with a horrible loss to Navy.
2010 was good until we got raped by Nebraska and followed that with an awful loss to a bad Texas Tech team. 2011 was shite, as we were 4-5 and required a 4 game streak to end at 8-5. This year was pathetic as we all know (frickin Syracuse?!). Not to mention his off the field shenanigans. Pinkel is a fantastic MAC or cUSA coach. He's NOT an SEC coach.

And where does the new OC fit into all of this?
Honestly, I don't know that much about him so I'm curious as to what changes you all are expecting on offense. Will it be a philosophy change that takes some adjusting?

They'll still use the spread, it's what they recruited, it's what they want to be..
But he'll add a football mans philosophy to it. Yost had no feel for the game, he never played it, not even in high school. The new guy will add some new looks, but mostly he should be better at in game decisions.

I wouldn't expect a lot of changes. We do what we do and the SEC has to adapt to us. I think I remember those words being spoken by someone.
In seriousness, I wouldn't expect a ton of change. Hopefully Mauk is the real deal because if it's Franklin again, it may be a long year.
