I think my issue with your logic that it isn't a toss up at best is that you're knocking Vandy for losing a QB and a RB when your own team will have a new OC and from the way you talk are not even sure who your QB will be coming into the season.

Also I believe Vandy returns quite a few on defense and they were quite a bit better at season's end then a lot of SEC teams. Statistically they finished the season as Top 5 in Total Defense in conference. Mizzou was 10th.

You said it better than I could.

I don't know how anyone could look at this past season and the prospects ahead for next season and not pick Vandy to beat Mizzou.

Well thats why they play the games. I'm sure at this time last year nobody was looking at the schedules and predicting aTm over Bama or ULM over Arky

Mizzou isn't that far off. Even with all the bad injury luck they had this year they lost @UF by 7, & by 4 to Syracuse & Vandy. Really should have won that Syracuse game and went Bowling.

Injuries and coaching plagued us all season. I look forward to the end of the Pinkel era

Injuries

This will plague you in the SEC every season until you develop some depth. It's what sets Alabama and Co. apart from the rest of us. I don't know that it ends with the Pinkel era unless you guys get a home run hire that can recruit his arse off.

Correct. Which is why I find it funny when people bring this up as an excuse for this year. This is a wear and tear league. We knew we needed depth coming in. Its just a shame we cant recruit any.

Thing is, Mizzou should be better than what they are. They are the lone BCS school in the fifth-most populous SEC state. They have a beautiful campus from what I've seen, and I've heard from others that Columbia, MO is a great college town.

Mizzou's facilities might not be up to par right now...in the bottom third of the SEC...but they made a commitment to improving them.

Mizzou would have been a bowl team in the Big 12 this year. They were built to compete in that league, not in the SEC. It's more physical here.

Pretty much the Vandy game will be big. The outcome of that game will most likely determine what happens to Pinkel. If he loses that, then I think he is gone. You can talk about how good Vandy is now (I would agree they are a solid team) but the fact of the matter is, we cant afford to lose to teams like that. If you do, then that clearly shows we are not on an upward track. We will see what happens.

I think 8-4 has to be the benchmark. 4 OOC wins and 4-4 in conference. I don't think it's going to happen, but that has to be the mark for Pinkel. Expecting less means you're accepting being the Vandy's, Arky's or Kentucky's in the league.

I can only go by what the team did most recently and unless things change on this team, I think we lose to UGA, UF, USCe, Ole Miss, A&M with Vandy and UT being toss ups and hopefully beat Kentucky. Based on what I saw last year, the Indiana game isn't a given. So I can see anywhere from 4-8 to 7-5. 7-5 might keep Pinkel his job even though 8-4 should be the mark.

I agree. I am just pointing out a game to keep your eye on. That will give a very clear picture as to what direction Pinkel will take us in.

I agree stripes, that game will tell us a lot about the team as well as the direction of the program.

I am kind of thankful for our situation in that, Pinkel cant put out pretender teams anymore. Its not 7-8 wins in the Big XII. Its get the job done or not.

You can still pretend in the SEC. Look at Mullins...

Sorry Stripes, wasn't directing that at you. Just now realized I probably hit reply to your comment though.

The recruiting is going to catch up with this staff sooner rather than later in this conference. Its already showing from the classes since 2008 and the SEC is a much tougher beast than the Big XII obviously. Things will only get worse because of this. 7-5 and another bottom ranked SEC class next year should be the trigger for change IMHO.

I think Mullins is a solid coach, but he is in a tough division not playing with the same hand as the stronger SEC Teams.

Pinkel on the other hand is losing to the Vanderbilts and Syracuses of the world.

I agree. I am just worried, because I expect a bad year for whenever we change coaches. The problem is we keep stacking up bad classes and that will be even longer.
