They do bring up our academics and their baseball program is one of the best

I guess Florida is glad Franklin is gone. How badly did Vandy beat Florida in the Swamp in 2013?

Florida posters here (not to be confused with their actual students or alumni) will try to bring up their own academic reputation but I don't think anyone here has ever encountered someone affiliated with UF who a) has a full set of teeth and/or b) dresses in a manner socially acceptable outside of the panhandle

I like Coach Mason. He's developing a program rather than just a team, somewhat akin to what Bielema has been doing at Arkansas. It's pretty easy to see his coaching philosophy as it is implemented. Obviously, if we were Bama or LSU fans, we'd be disappointed. But Franklin didn't actually change our expectations for success in the short time he was here. We're used to digging in and seeing how things play out.

I like the direction he is going and I have a feeling he will do very well once he gets a decent QB and OC.
If Vandy ever fires him though, I hope Ole Miss throws the bank at him to get him as DC.

UF grad here. Sidewalk fans are generally a product of a successful athletic department. On behalf of UF, I apologize for our overall athletic achievements, and the inevitable T-shirt fans they produce.
Unfortunately, we can't all be lucky enough to have Vandy's situation - an overall athletic department so bad that there is literally no desire for people to cheer for them, unless they are alumnus. We should all be so lucky.

Yea vandy's athletic department is so bad they've only hauled in one national championship each of the past two years

Vandy is lucky to be allowed to stay in the SEC, being propped up by all the money that every other school brings in.
Vandy would be perfectly fine without the SEC money.

Our endowment is north of $4 billion. Chump change compared to Harvard. Pretty damned good in the SEC. I'm guessing only TAMU oil money beats us but I'm too lazy to track them all down.

Back to the original topic, Mason's first year was about as disastrous as it could have been. Last minute assistant hires aren't good; the hire of Dorrell is still baffling. I was skeptical of Mason taking over as DC but the results speak for themselves. The only game I was really disappointed in the D was the UT game. Other than that, they played well the entire year. The offense...well that never really improved. Some key contributors were out but Vandy never moved the ball with any consistency. Hoping for a better third year out of Mason. Vandy should go to a bowl game this year and anything less would be a disappointment.

Fixed.

Vandy was a lot better this year than they were his first season. That's a good reason not to put the man on the hotseat. Not only did Franklin leave knowing full well that Vandy was losing all the talent to graduation, he took the recruits with him out the door. They were left more barren than they were when he arrived.
Mason is an outstanding DC but he needs someone who can do more with less on the offensive side of the ball.
