After Franklin, I would be pretty upset about Mason's performance but we haven't really seen him put on the hotseat yet. What're your thoughts on Mason? Is he loved by Vandy fans or do you desire more?

I think he's done a good job. Franklin bombed the program before he left and never really built a solid foundation. Mason seems to be doing that.

If they can get some improved QB play I think Mason has them bowling next year.

I like him and think he can have success. It just takes longer at Vanderbilt than other schools. It was a mess after Franklin. He has good QB committed and is trending in the right direction. Patience is necessary.

He had them competing in many games that shouldn't have really been close.

They'll probably be back to beating Ole Miss regularly next year.

They're all busy jerking each other off over time hart getting processed and saying bad things about Tennessee. They're the real life cajunbama's, they care way less about their team than all things Tennessee.

Definitely liked. They improved tremendously this year. He seems to be a great recruiter and players really like him.

His first season was an unmitigated disaster than came about because of a few reasons:

1. He was learning on the job - hiring coordinators is always risky but Mason wasn't ready to be a HC from an organizational standpoint. It looks like he's improving there.

2. Timing - Following Franklin's success nearly anyone VU could bring in would have not done as well with what Vandy lost to graduation after 2013.

3. Initial Coordinator Hires - Also plays into #2, Franklin waited so late to take the PSU job that by the time Mason was hired we were 2 weeks from signing day and he had even less time to throw together a coaching staff. Leading to the horrible hiring of Karl Dorrell & to a lesser extent Kotulski. His first strength coach Hugahan was also a disaster bigger than Dorrell which is really saying something. Hiring Nebraska's strength coach after Pelini was let go made a big difference in that department.

He took a lot of steps to correct those mistakes and it did show itself on the field quite a bit in 2015. The defense after Mason took over play calling was one of the 5 most improved units in the country this season & has a ton of the top 22 returning. Defensive performance fell off at the end of the season but with the whole team leaning on them all year they wore down.

Looks like Vandy has a QB in Kyle Shurmur who did well for a true freshmen with limited WRs. OL should be better with both starting OTs back after missing most of year with injury, RB is solid with Webb and TEs were pretty good. ST has to get better, even with the poor offense ST mistakes cost VU a 6-6 bowl season in 2015 & as a result the ST coordinator was fired.

The handful of times I've seen him on SECN directing practice and such I've been extremely impressed. He comes across as being very put together during his interviews and media appearances. I could see why kids would enjoy playing for him.

Always thought it was a fish out of water hire.
I get the Stanford/Vandy academic type hire with the success on that staff at Stanford but Mason would have been better staying out on west coast. I think he's a quality defensive coach that is similar to Muschamp, no clue on offense.

Vandy is lucky to be allowed to stay in the SEC, being propped up by all the money that every other school brings in.

typical Florida trash

They need a school like Vanderbilt with successful alumni to counterbalance your school's 'product.' Can't have the SEC being represented by jorts.
